Job Description
Basic Metals is expanding our maintenance department into a new, exciting facility and looking to add some new members to our team! We're looking for a heavy equipment mechanic to help us with our heavy equipment fleet today!
Mechanic Helper Job Responsibilities:
Assists in diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (i.e. Excavators, Loaders, Forklifts, etc.); Keeps the equipment operational by completing inspections and following preventive maintenance requirements; correcting equipment deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping good records.RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Perform maintenance and repairs on all necessary containers, equipment, or other company property as delegated by the Manager. Order necessary materials and supplies, maintain on-hand inventory to maximize turnaround time and efficiency of work. Oversee all special projects as directed by Manager. Generate work orders for all equipment being taken in for repair/maintenance: Perform repair work on company equipment such as breakdowns, malfunctions and emergency repair in a safe, efficient and quality manner as delegated by the Manager. Perform required inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment to maximize the safety, productivity and life of the unit as delegated by Manager. Follow all industrial safety standards and Basic Metals policies. Participate in ongoing training programs and mandatory safety meetings.Mechanic Skills and Qualifications:
- Legally capable of being employed in Michigan.
- Must have at least (3) years of experience working on Heavy Equipment such as hilos, front end loaders, excavators, etc..
- Primarily replacing hydraulic hoses, conducting PM work, diagnosing problems, general repair maintenance
- NO engine rebuilding. No certifications required.
- Welding experience and/or Electrical experience a plus
- Ability to operate various pieces of equipment would be helpful.
- Must be able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
- Must be physically able to lift 75lbs and be able to carry out expected job duties.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in all different elements including heat, cold, rain and snow.
- Must be physically able to speak to management and other employees or customers; maintain, clean and keep in good condition the equipment; and keep records of repairs.
- Must be able to take direction and execute plans effectively.
