Full Job Description Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support our construction operations by maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy equipment and trucks. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, hands-on experience with diesel and hydraulic systems, and the ability to perform repairs both in the shop and in the field. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime and keeping projects moving on schedule while maintaining a safe and reliable fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, rollers, and dump trucks Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, and undercarriages Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and fluid services Perform field repairs on active job sites to reduce equipment downtime Use diagnostic software, schematics, and service manuals to identify and resolve issues Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance logs Order parts and coordinate with vendors and dealers on warranty and major repairs Perform basic welding and fabrication as needed Keep the shop, tools, and service truck clean, organized, and safe Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures Communicate effectively with the Division Manager, equipment operators, and site supervisors about equipment status and needs Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability in the shop and on-site
Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment, preferably in civil or utility work Strong diesel engine and hydraulic system diagnostic and repair skills Experience with major equipment brands such as Caterpillar, John Deere Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic codes Welding and fabrication experience a plus Valid driver's license required; Class A or B CDL a plus Must provide own hand tools Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs Strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
