Forklift & Yard Truck Mechanic Assistant Job Type:

1st Shift, 5am-5pm

$20-$22/hr About the Position We are looking for a dependable and mechanically minded Forklift & Yard Truck Mechanic Assistant to support the maintenance and repair of our material-handling and yard equipment. This is a hands-on position working alongside experienced mechanics to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair forklifts, yard trucks, trailers, and other equipment used throughout our manufacturing operation. This is a great opportunity for someone with mechanical experience who wants to develop their skills in industrial equipment maintenance. Responsibilities Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs on forklifts and yard trucks Perform basic inspections and identify equipment issues Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems Perform oil, filter, fluid, battery, and lubrication maintenance Assist with brake, tire, steering, suspension, and other mechanical repairs Help replace worn or damaged parts and components Assist with welding, fabrication, and basic repairs when needed Use hand tools, power tools, jacks, lifts, and other shop equipment safely Help maintain and organize the maintenance shop and tools Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs Perform routine equipment inspections and report problems promptly Assist with maintaining trailers, carts, and other yard equipment Work with mechanics to diagnose problems and complete repairs efficiently Follow all company safety procedures and equipment-specific safety requirements Maintain a clean and organized work area Perform other maintenance-related duties as needed Qualifications Previous mechanical, automotive, diesel, equipment, or manufacturing experience preferred Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn Comfortable using basic hand and power tools Ability to follow instructions and work safely Strong attention to detail Dependable attendance and punctuality Ability to work independently and as part of a team Basic understanding of mechanical systems preferred Welding or fabrication experience is a plus Experience with forklifts, yard trucks, diesel equipment, or heavy equipment is a plus Formal mechanic certification is not required for this position.
