Full-time, Permanent Compensation:
$28.00 - $40.00 hour + benefits (DOE) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our mixed fleet of construction and logging machinery. This position requires an adaptable technician capable of handling shop diagnostics, scheduled fleet maintenance, and urgent field repairs in demanding Pacific Northwest environments. You will play a critical role in minimizing downtime for active job sites and timber operations.
Core Responsibilities Field & Shop Repairs:
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain failures on-site and in the shop.
Construction Fleet Maintenance:
Service earthmoving and excavation equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, and backhoes.
Logging Fleet Maintenance:
Service specialized timber harvesting machinery, including feller bunchers, log loaders, yarders, and delimbers.
Welding & Fabrication:
Perform structural field welding, bucket rebuilds, and minor component fabrication as required.
Preventative Maintenance:
Conduct routine fluid changes, track/undercarriage adjustments, and safety inspections to maximize fleet longevity.
Documentation:
Track parts inventory, document diagnostic findings, and log completed work orders accurately.
Required Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience working on heavy construction or forestry/logging equipment.
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in high-pressure hydraulic systems, DC electrical diagnostics, and diesel engine repair (CAT, Deere, Cummins).
Tools:
Possession of a comprehensive set of personal mechanic hand tools up to 1-1/2" or 2" minimum.
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A or B is highly preferred for field service truck operation).
Physical Ability:
Able to lift up to 75 lbs, climb onto large machinery, and work outdoors in varying Oregon weather conditions. Preferred Skills Prior experience operating a fully equipped field service truck with a service crane. Strong knowledge of track undercarriage wear limits and repair techniques.
