This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, cleaning, and repairs on a variety of construction and rental equipment. The Shop Technician works closely with the Shop Manager, Yard Manager, and Parts Specialist to minimize equipment downtime and maintain fleet readiness. Essential Functions Inspect rental equipment when it is returned and identify damage, maintenance needs, or safety concerns. Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, fluid checks, and other scheduled services. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel-system issues. Perform basic repairs on engines, hoses, belts, batteries, tires, tracks, attachments, and other equipment components. Test equipment after repairs or maintenance to verify proper and safe operation. Complete equipment inspections before equipment is returned to rental-ready status. Document maintenance, inspections, repairs, parts used, and equipment condition accurately. Communicate needed repairs, equipment damage, and safety concerns to the Shop Manager. Request necessary parts and supplies through the Shop Manager or Parts/Inventory Specialist. Assist with installing replacement parts and equipment attachments. Troubleshoot equipment that is not operating properly and determine appropriate repair procedures. Assist with field service calls and customer equipment issues when assigned. Maintain shop tools and equipment in safe working condition. Keep assigned work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards. Follow manufacturer specifications and company preventive maintenance procedures. Follow all company safety policies and properly use required personal protective equipment. Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and staging equipment when necessary. Safely operate rental equipment as required for inspection, testing, maintenance, and movement. Notify management of recurring equipment problems or equipment that may require extensive repair or replacement. Assist other technicians and shop personnel as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shop Manager or management.

Job Specifications Education:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Technical or vocational training in diesel, automotive, small engine, heavy equipment, or a related field is beneficial.

Experience:

Previous mechanical, automotive, diesel, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, or equipment-rental experience preferred. Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical ability and a willingness to learn may also be considered.

Knowledge and Skills:

Basic knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and equipment maintenance; ability to use hand and power tools safely; mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to follow maintenance schedules and repair instructions; basic computer and recordkeeping skills; and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

License/Certifications:

Valid driver's license preferred or required depending on assigned responsibilities. Forklift, equipment-operation, mechanical, or other relevant certifications are beneficial. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and work in and around equipment for extended periods. Must be able to lift and move tools, parts, batteries, attachments, and other equipment components as required. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, dirt, grease, noise, and varying weather conditions.
