Job Description On-Site Diagnostics:
Travel to job locations to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical malfunctions using computerized diagnostic tools like Cat ET, Deere Pro Service, JPro, Cummins Insite, etc.
Complex Repairs:
Perform major and minor repairs on diesel engines, fuel systems, drive trains, and hydraulic systems directly in the field.
Preventative Maintenance:
Conduct routine service, including fluid changes, lubrication, and safety inspections, to prevent equipment downtime.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed electronic records of work orders, parts used, and warranty information via laptops or tablets.
Emergency Service:
Respond to urgent service calls to restore non-operational equipment on active construction sites.
Welding & Fabrication:
Perform minor field welding and fabrication (MIG, SMAW) as needed for structural repairs. Experience Proven experience working as a heavy equipment mechanic or service technician in dealership or industrial settings. Typically, 2 to 5 years of proven experience often with a background in construction or rental equipment. Strong knowledge of Caterpillar (CAT) , John Deere, other OEM heavy machinery systems; familiarity with schematics is highly preferred. Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, electrical troubleshooting, diesel engine repair, and vehicle maintenance. Skilled in using diagnostic software for heavy equipment diagnostics and electrical system troubleshooting. Understanding Tier 4 aftertreatment systems. Experience working with industrial equipment, excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractor-trailers or similar heavy-duty vehicles. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently during field service tasks. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to superintendents / foreman and team members alike. mechanics to own a comprehensive set of personal hand and power tools adequate for the job.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Physical Strength:
Ability to lift and move up to 50-100 pounds and work in awkward positions, such as crouching, kneeling, or lying under machinery.
Outdoor Exposure:
Work is performed outdoors in extreme weather conditions (high heat or freezing temperatures) and loud, dusty environments.
Schedule:
Often requires 50-60 hours per week with potential for on-call shifts, evenings, or weekend work.
Pay:
$35.00 - $45.00 per hour
