POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic Assistant will assist mechanics in making all repairs and adjustments necessary to maintain the HWWS fleet of vehicles and equipment in working order. Work is performed in accordance with standard procedures and practices of the mechanical trades and requires independent judgment and initiative in detecting malfunctions and in solving mechanical problems. Work is evaluated through inspections and observations based on the operational efficiency of vehicles and equipment repaired and serviced. Assignments are usually received in the form of oral instructions or written work orders by the Fleet Coordinator and/or Mechanic. Physical strength and endurance are required to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, possibly in adverse weather and working conditions. An employee in this class is under direct to general supervision and is evaluated through observation and efficiency of duties performed.
