The ideal candidate must be able to evaluate a trailer, identify mechanical, structural, electrical, and safety issues, and determine the parts, materials, and repairs needed. This position requires hands-on trailer repair experience, mechanical and fabrication skills, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaborate with other employees in a team-oriented shop environment. Duties and Responsibilities Inspect trailers and identify mechanical, structural, electrical, and safety issues Diagnose trailer problems and determine the parts, materials, and repairs needed Perform trailer maintenance and repairs Fabricate, modify, and repair trailer components Perform welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembly work as needed Repair and replace trailer brakes, axles, bearings, suspension components, lights, wiring, and other trailer parts Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and shop machinery safely and correctly Test completed repairs to ensure trailers operate properly and safely Communicate repair needs and recommendations to supervisors and team members Maintain accurate records of completed work and parts used Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized Work effectively and professionally with other shop employees Follow all company policies, shop procedures, and workplace safety requirements Wear required personal protective equipment Perform other related shop duties as assigned Required Qualifications Previous professional experience in trailer repair, mechanical work, welding, or metal fabrication is required At least two years of relevant experience is preferred Knowledge of trailer brakes, axles, bearings, suspension systems, electrical wiring, and lighting is required Welding and metal fabrication knowledge and experience are required Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills Ability to inspect a trailer and determine the necessary repairs, parts, and materials Ability to identify mechanical, structural, electrical, and safety concerns Ability to measure accurately and safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and shop machinery Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious Must have a current and valid DOT medical card Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a shop environment for extended periods Work Environment and Physical Requirements This is a hands-on position in an active trailer repair and fabrication shop. The employee will regularly work around hand and power tools, shop machinery, welding equipment, moving vehicles, noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures. The employee must be able to: Lift and carry at least 50 pounds Stand and walk for extended periods Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb as needed Safely use required tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment Follow all company and workplace safety procedures
