Full Job Description Position Overview A leading provider of intermodal terminal operations and equipment-support services is seeking an experienced Mechanical Lead to support a high-volume terminal operation. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment while coordinating the activities of on-site technicians. The Mechanical Lead will also serve as a key point of contact for facility management and help ensure equipment, service requests, work orders, parts, and customer records are managed effectively. The ideal candidate has extensive heavy-equipment maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the ability to lead technicians in a demanding outdoor environment. What You'll Do Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on intermodal and heavy equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and related equipment systems. Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics. Perform detailed equipment inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM specifications. Respond to equipment and service requests from facility personnel and customers. Maintain accurate equipment, service, work-order, and maintenance records. Coordinate with internal teams to obtain required parts, supplies, and third-party services. Serve as a primary point of contact for local facility management regarding equipment maintenance and service activities. Communicate equipment status, repairs, outstanding issues, and other activities to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with regional leadership and billing/support teams. Ensure customer and service-management systems are updated accurately and consistently. Manage, prioritize, and coordinate the workload of fellow on-site technicians. Assist with training and cross-training employees to ensure work is performed safely and effectively. Support special projects and other operational assignments as needed. Assist other departments when required. Participate in after-hours and emergency call-outs as necessary. Follow all company, customer, railroad, environmental, health, and safety policies with a goal of zero incidents and injuries.

What You'll Need Required:

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. 7+ years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as forklifts, aerial lifts, or comparable machinery. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics. Basic computer skills. Experience with administrative support, operations coordination, or related responsibilities. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service-management software. Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills. Customer-focused approach and effective problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams. Ability to work at elevated heights and lift up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around loud machinery. Ability to distinguish colors accurately. Ability to follow strict safety procedures and railroad requirements. Basic understanding of SPC fundamentals. Willingness to be cross-trained and assist in other departments. Willingness to respond to after-hours call-outs. Preferred Qualifications Advanced heavy-equipment troubleshooting experience. Previous experience leading or coordinating maintenance technicians. Experience with scheduling, work-order management, or technician dispatching. Familiarity with parts procurement and third-party service coordination. Experience working in an intermodal, railroad, transportation, port, fleet, or industrial maintenance environment. Work Environment This position is based in South Seattle, Washington and requires employees to be on-site during scheduled shifts. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment, loud machinery, elevated work areas, and active terminal operations. Employees must be comfortable performing physically demanding work while consistently following safety and environmental requirements.
