Job Description

  • Job Title: Trailer Mechanic
  • Job Description
  • This role focuses on performing comprehensive maintenance and repair work on trailers and related equipment.

You will diagnose mechanical issues, carry out structural and mechanical repairs, and ensure all trailers meet safety and regulatory standards. The position requires strong troubleshooting abilities, a broad range of repair skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Perform floor repairs on trailers, including removal, replacement, and reinforcement of damaged sections.

+ Install body and roof patches to repair structural damage and prevent leaks.

+ Repair overhead and swing doors, including adjustment, hardware replacement, and sealing.

+ Carry out lift gate repairs, including hydraulic hose replacement and troubleshooting hydraulic systems.

+ Perform suspension repairs such as replacing air bags, torque arms, and springs.

+ Replace and repair landing gear components to ensure safe and reliable trailer support.

+ Perform complete brake jobs, including inspection, adjustment, and replacement of brake components.

+ Replace wheel seals and inspect related components to prevent leaks and ensure safe operation.

+ Repair trailer lighting systems and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) to maintain compliance and safety.

+ Inspect and test defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions accurately.

+ Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.

+ Use test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges to diagnose issues and verify repairs.

+ Troubleshoot and repair all makes and models of vehicles and trailers as assigned.

+ Conduct DOT inspections in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.

+ Communicate with customers in a clear, professional, and courteous manner regarding findings and recommended repairs.

+ Follow all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safety procedures while performing work.

+ Attend weekly and monthly safety meetings and apply safety best practices in daily tasks.

  • Essential Skills
  • + Proven ability to perform trailer repairs, including floors, bodies, roofs, doors, lift gates, suspensions, landing gear, brakes, and wheel seals.

+ Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

+ Hands-on experience with routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.

+ Ability to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

+ Experience repairing and maintaining lighting systems and ABS on trailers or vehicles.

+ Capability to perform DOT inspections in compliance with regulations.

+ Ability to work effectively without supervision and manage tasks independently.

+ Clear and courteous communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.

+ Commitment to following PPE requirements and safety procedures at all times.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Experience as a maintenance technician or diesel mechanic working on trailers, trucks, or similar equipment.

+ Familiarity with hydraulic systems, including lift gates and related components.

+ Comfort using diagnostic tools and electronic test equipment to support troubleshooting.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality repair work.

+ Ability to attend and participate in regular safety meetings and apply safety training on the job.

  • Work Environment
  • The role is hands-on and shop-based, working with trailers, vehicles, and related equipment in a maintenance and repair setting.

You will perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication, as well as more complex diagnostic and repair tasks. The work involves regular use of test instruments including handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges. Safety is a priority, with strict adherence to PPE requirements and participation in weekly and monthly safety meetings. You will work with various makes of vehicles and trailers and perform DOT inspections in a structured, safety-conscious environment.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $25.

00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
