Job Description
Position Overview Golden State Heat Pump is growing, and we're looking for skilled HVAC installers to join our team serving the East Bay and Tracy area. You'll be installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential and light commercial settings, delivering the kind of work that keeps families and businesses comfortable year-round.
Location:
Service area covers East Bay & Central Valley (Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Hayward, Fremont, Livermore, Tracy, Mountain House, Manteca)
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday-Friday with overtime opportunities as needed and some
Saturdays Core Responsibilities:
Install new HVAC systems: furnaces, air conditioners, mini-splits, heat pumps, ductwork, water heaters. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues; identify root causes and communicate solutions to customers. Perform maintenance and repair work Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Maintain detailed documentation of work performed (system specs, service reports, before & after photos) Adhere to safety protocols and building codes (Title 24, CSLB requirements, local permits) Manage on-site permits and inspections as needed; coordinate with building departments and third-party inspectors Communicate professionally with customers; explain work in terms they understand Collect payment from customers when job completed Coordinate with other trades on multi-trade projects
On-Site Decision-Making:
Identify scope changes or additional work needed during installation; get customer approval before proceeding Capture customer acknowledgments (declined recommendations, inspection/permit responsibilities) using mobile tools Report back to the office with photos, notes, and updates for job completion and billing
What We're Looking For Required:
Proven experience in HVAC installation or related HVAC work (apprenticeship or 2+ years field experience preferred) EPA 608 Certification (universal or applicable sections) Experience with residential heat pump and central AC systems Valid California driver's license and clean driving record (insurance requirement) Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly, climb ladders, work in attics and crawl spaces Willingness to work in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the service area Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; read technical drawings
Driving Requirement:
This position requires regular operation of a company vehicle to travel to customer locations and jobsites. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record under the company's insurance requirements. A pre-employment drug screening is required following a conditional offer of employment. Employees are prohibited from using or being impaired by drugs or alcohol while working or operating company vehicles. All screening and employment decisions will be conducted in accordance with California law.

We specialize in residential heat pump installations, energy-efficient system replacements, and light commercial work.
