Fort Lauderdale, FL | Full-Time | 5+ Years' Experience Required O'Brien Air Conditioning & Construction Services is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician to join our growing team. This position is intended for a skilled service technician who can independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems. This is not an entry-level or HVAC helper position. Candidates should have strong commercial service experience and be comfortable communicating technical findings, recommended repairs, and equipment conditions to customers and office management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum five years of hands-on commercial HVAC/R service experience EPA Section 608 Certification required; Universal Certification preferred Strong electrical, refrigeration, controls, and airflow diagnostic skills Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications Ability to diagnose systems independently and identify the root cause of equipment failures Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Dependable, professional, safety-conscious, and organized Ability to communicate findings clearly in writing and verbally Willingness to travel to job sites as required Availability for scheduled overtime and emergency service calls when needed
PREFERRED EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have service and repair experience with several of the following: Commercial rooftop and package units up to 30 tons Split systems and heat-pump systems Cooling towers and condenser-water systems Fan-coil units VFDs and motor-control systems Commercial refrigeration equipment Walk-in coolers and freezers Building automation and HVAC control systems Compressors, motors, pumps, contactors, transformers, control boards, and low-voltage circuits
RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnose, service, and repair commercial HVAC/R equipment Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and emergency service calls Troubleshoot electrical, refrigeration, control, and airflow problems Test system operation, pressures, temperatures, voltage, amperage, and related operating conditions Identify failed or deteriorated components and recommend appropriate repairs Prepare clear service notes documenting findings, work performed, materials used, and additional recommendations Communicate professionally with customers, facility contacts, office staff, and management Provide repair and replacement recommendations when equipment condition warrants them Take clear job-site and equipment photographs when required Maintain an organized company vehicle, tools, materials, and work area Follow company procedures, manufacturer requirements, and applicable safety standards
