Job Description
HVAC Technician - $26 - $30/hr. (1st shift) Job Description The HVAC Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all HVAC equipment, systems, and machinery across college facilities. This role includes handling HVAC-related Help Desk tickets and ensuring the smooth operation of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Responsibilities Install and maintain HVAC systems at various locations, including heating, cooling, exhaust, and overhead units. Conserve, install, and recycle CFC and HCFC refrigerants. Maintain an inventory of spare parts for HVAC systems. Review existing systems for proper operations and effect repairs on thermostats, fan motors, actuators, heating elements, and belts. Be available on call 24/7 for urgent repairs and maintenance. Diagnose and repair minor electrical and plumbing problems. Prepare surfaces for painting as part of maintenance tasks. Perform general maintenance and remodel work at college facilities. Conduct preventive maintenance for all HVAC-related equipment. Assist in tracking departmental budget spending and authorization. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Strong organizational, communication, time management, and critical thinking skills. Thorough knowledge of HVAC equipment and controls. Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine/preventive maintenance on HVAC systems. Knowledge and ability to read blueprints and use CAD software. Experience diagnosing and repairing minor electrical and plumbing problems related to HVAC. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. EPA certification required within six months of hire. Six months experience reading and interpreting blueprints. At least three years of HVAC experience. Trade school certification in HVAC or related area. Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred:
Associate or higher degree in a related field. Understanding of local building codes. Experience with Microsoft Project. Experience working in higher education. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
