07/01/2026 Job title: HVAC Helper Reports to: Administrator of Physical Plant Receives guidance from: Administrator, District Administration and Support Staff, Assistant Superintendent Overtime status: Compliant with position, salary and FLSA regulations Job purpose: In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the HVAC helper is to assist the HVAC tech or supervisor. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Duties and responsibilities:
Must be able to read schematics and wiring diagrams associated with HVAC and related systems. Must have a good knowledge of the refrigeration system to diagnose problems and resolve issues with HVAC systems within the school district. Must have a good understanding of electrical systems to diagnose problems and resolve issues with HVAC systems within the school district. Must be able to use refrigerant recovery equipment and gauges for proper handling of refrigerant. Must have a basic knowledge of the EMS systems controlling the HVAC equipment in the schools. (Schneider and Tracer Summit is a plus) Must be able to interpret and respond to work orders submitted in the maintenance request system. Must be able to work with a helper and manage day to day operations. Set schedules for periodic inspections of HVAC systems in the District Report special problems to the HVAC supervisor as pertains to maintenance and upkeep of District properties Recommend to the HVAC supervisor possible solutions to events/situations as they happen React to emergencies and is "on call" 24 hours a day and 7 days a week Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures Maintain confidentiality Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the
Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct Qualifications:
Education Level:
High School Diploma or Equivalent as a minimum. Trade School preferred.
Certification:
EPA Certification in Universal Refrigerant Handling
Other Requirements:
Valid Driver's License and a good driving record is a MUST.
