Lead HVAC Service Technician A&C Mechanical, LLC Merrimack, NH Job Details Full-time $28 - $40 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Fuel card Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Life insurance Tools provided Qualifications Customer communication Customer service High school diploma or GED Driver's License HVAC Mechanical troubleshooting Service technician experience Full Job Description A&C Mechanical is looking for an experienced Lead HVAC Service Technician who can diagnose difficult problems, deliver excellent service, and help set the standard for our growing team. This is a hands-on field position. You will run residential and light-commercial service calls, perform advanced diagnostics and repairs, communicate clearly with customers, and help develop less-experienced apprentices. We want someone who takes pride in doing the job correctly, protecting the customer's property, and leaving both the equipment and the work area better than they found them. What Lead Means at A&C As our Lead HVAC Service Technician , you will be trusted to: Handle complex service and diagnostic calls independently. Serve as a technical resource for technicians and apprentices. Help establish service procedures, diagnostic standards, and maintenance checklists. Perform quality-control inspections and help prevent callbacks. Communicate problems and repair options honestly—without high-pressure sales tactics. Identify training needs and help the team continuously improve. Represent A&C professionally in customers' homes and businesses. Communicate directly with ownership about recurring equipment, workflow, inventory, or customer issues. You will not be expected to know everything. You will be expected to recognize what you know, know when to stop and ask, and never bluff your way through a safety or technical issue. Primary Responsibilities Diagnose and repair residential and light-commercial HVAC systems. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning work. Service equipment including furnaces, boilers, central air-conditioning systems, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, hydronic systems, and related controls. Diagnose electrical, mechanical, airflow, refrigeration, combustion, and control-system problems. Use electrical meters, manometers, combustion analyzers, refrigerant gauges, vacuum equipment, and other diagnostic tools correctly. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, manufacturer literature, and technical specifications. Perform required safety testing, refrigerant procedures, leak checks, combustion testing, and system-performance verification. Explain findings and repair options clearly to customers. Obtain authorization before expanding the scope of work or making commitments outside assigned authority. Complete service notes, equipment information, photos, time records, material usage, estimates, and follow-up recommendations accurately. Help maintain service vehicles, tools, parts, and inventory. Support maintenance-membership visits and identify legitimate repair or replacement needs. Assist with system installations, replacements, startups, and quality-control inspections when needed. Mentor apprentices and developing technicians through explanation, demonstration, supervised practice, and constructive feedback. Follow applicable codes, manufacturer instructions, EPA requirements, and A&C safety procedures. Participate in the company's rotating on-call or emergency-service schedule, if applicable. Report safety concerns, property damage, failed testing, callbacks, and customer concerns immediately. What We're Looking For At least five years of hands-on HVAC service experience preferred. Strong residential heating and cooling diagnostic experience. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems independently rather than simply replace parts. Solid understanding of electrical controls, refrigeration circuits, airflow, gas heating, hydronic systems, and combustion safety. EPA Section 608 Universal certification. Current New Hampshire gas-service or gas-fitter licensing strongly preferred. Additional oil-heating, NATE, OSHA, manufacturer, or trade certifications are a plus. Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the company's insurance carrier. Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications. Ability to communicate technical findings in language customers can understand. Ability to mentor others without talking down to them. Strong organization, documentation, and follow-through. Willingness to work in attics, basements, crawlspaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor weather conditions. Ability to safely lift and move tools, materials, and equipment commonly required for HVAC service work. Ability to pass any lawful background, driving-record, or pre-employment screening required by A&C. The Right Person for This Role You may be a great fit if you: Take pride in finding the actual cause of a problem. Believe cleanliness and communication are part of good workmanship. Do not hide mistakes or failed tests. Can lead without needing to be the loudest person on the job. Enjoy teaching someone who genuinely wants to learn. Treat the customer's home with respect. Document your work because the next person should not have to solve a mystery. Want an opportunity to help shape a growing service department. Prefer honest recommendations over aggressive sales pressure. Understand that moving quickly and rushing carelessly are not the same thing.
