If you have hands-on HVAC experience and a passion for helping others succeed, this is an opportunity to use your industry knowledge to make a lasting impact. Previous teaching experience is welcome but not required—we are willing to help the right HVAC professional learn how to become an effective instructor. NTI provides hands-on educational programs that prepare students with practical, career-ready skills for high-demand occupations. Our accelerated, skills-based programs are designed around the needs of contractors and employers, helping students build the knowledge, confidence, and technical ability needed to begin successful careers in the trades. Position Overview The Part-Time HVAC Instructor provides engaging, hands-on instruction in the theory and practical application of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This position is responsible for delivering NTI's approved curriculum, supporting student progress, maintaining a safe and organized learning environment, and preparing students for employment in the HVAC industry. This is an on-campus, part-time position reporting to the Campus Director. Work hours will be scheduled according to class offerings, enrollment, and campus needs. There is no guaranteed or permanently assigned schedule. Key Responsibilities Provide classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction in HVAC theory and practice. Teach applicable residential and light-commercial HVAC concepts. Deliver instruction in areas such as electrical fundamentals, refrigeration principles, heating systems, air conditioning, airflow, controls, system installation, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting. Demonstrate the proper use of HVAC tools, meters, gauges, recovery equipment, and other industry equipment. Introduce and reinforce applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, codes, and industry practices. Deliver NTI's approved curriculum and help students achieve established program outcomes. Direct, engage, retain, and hold students accountable throughout the program. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, student progress, and academic achievement. Provide students with guidance, feedback, and academic support when needed. Ensure that required safety policies and procedures are followed in classroom and lab environments. Stay current on technical developments, refrigerant changes, tools, equipment, and industry practices. Demonstrate professionalism and make effective use of scheduled instructional time. Consistently model NTI's core values in interactions with students, coworkers, and industry partners. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least two years of professional experience working in the HVAC trade. Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration principles, electrical components, tools, equipment, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety practices. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership, organizational, and classroom-management abilities. Ability to explain technical information clearly to students with different levels of experience. Highly motivated, dependable, organized, and results-driven. Ability and willingness to work a flexible part-time schedule based on program needs. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of professional HVAC experience. EPA Section 608 certification. Current or previously held HVAC license, certification, or other relevant industry credential. Prior teaching, training, mentoring, apprenticeship, or supervisory experience. Experience teaching in an accelerated or hands-on training environment. Teaching experience is not required. Physical and Work Environment Requirements This position may require the ability to: Stand or remain in a stationary position for extended periods. Move throughout classrooms and HVAC lab environments. Lift, move, or demonstrate the use of tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Bend, reach, climb, kneel, or work in confined spaces while demonstrating HVAC procedures. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and HVAC equipment. Communicate effectively with students and coworkers. Work in environments that may occasionally be noisy, warm, cold, or exposed to conditions typical of a skilled-trades laboratory.
