HVAC/R II

Technician is a skilled maintenance professional responsible for the repair, upkeep, and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration systems across campus. after 2 years Retirement contributions (after 2 years) University home purchase assistance program (eligibility required) Key Responsibilities Respond to and complete work orders, including follow-up and customer service.

Perform preventive maintenance:

filter changes, belt alignment, coil cleaning, amp draws, CSD‑1 boiler checks, etc. Inspect, clean, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems including walk‑ins, reach‑ins, air handlers, rooftop units, VRF systems, water‑source heat pumps, chillers, fans, coils, thermostats, and more. Support steam line repairs and pump house operations. Serve in the on‑call rotation (7 days every ~10 weeks; stipend + OT). Respond to campus emergencies and resolve issues promptly. Maintain tools, equipment, mechanical rooms, and safe work practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required 2+ years HVAC/R or boiler system experience 2+ years preventive maintenance experience EPA Section 608 Refrigeration Certification Oregon driver's license Experience with hand and power tools Preferred Associate degree or trade certifications 1+ year soldering, brazing, welding Experience with multiple construction trades Heavy equipment operation (forklift, high lift, etc.) DDC controls experience (Siemens, Alerton, etc.) Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, preventive maintenance, and construction-related tools/equipment. Ability to read blueprints, O&M manuals, and follow written/verbal instructions. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong initiative, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment. Basic computer skills or willingness to learn. Physical & Working Conditions Regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs. Exposure to mechanical parts, vibration, chemicals, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and electrical hazards. Requires on-call shift for one week, every 8-10 weeks. Moderate to high noise levels; PPE required as needed.

Pay:

From $27.29 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
