is establishing a new high-speed paper converting and packaging facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, built around European-made automated production. The Plant & Automation Engineering Lead is the first engineering hire for the site and owns the plant floor end to end: site readiness, machine installation and commissioning, ramp to rated output, ongoing maintenance and quality, and building the production team. This is a hands-on, build-from-scratch role reporting directly to the founders, with regular coordination with our overseas manufacturing operations and our European equipment OEMs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Site readiness. Define and manage the facility requirements for the line: layout, power and voltage, compressed air, clean-room area, material flow and storage. Coordinate contractors and permitting. Installation and commissioning. Lead rigging, installation and site acceptance testing (SAT) with OEM engineers; attend factory acceptance testing (FAT) at the OEM in Europe as required. Drive ramp-up to rated speed and target efficiency (85%+). Production. Own daily output, OEE, changeovers (paper, folding and product specification), waste and reject rates. Establish shift structure for a 7-day operation. Maintenance. Build the preventive maintenance program, spare parts inventory and breakdown response. Manage the service relationship with equipment OEMs and vendors. Quality. Implement in-line quality control on product geometry, fold and fill, and paper; manage production sample sign-off with customers and root-cause analysis on rejections. Team. Recruit, train and schedule technicians and operators. Write and enforce SOPs, safety practices and housekeeping standards from day one. Reporting. Deliver weekly output, downtime and cost-per-unit reporting to the founders; contribute to decisions on additional machines and facility expansion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience. 8+ years in high-speed automated production in tobacco, food/confectionery, packaging, pharmaceutical or similar industries. Has personally commissioned at least one production line, from FAT/SAT through ramp-up and stabilization. Working knowledge of PLCs, servo drives, pneumatics and OEM mechanical drawings; comfortable troubleshooting on the floor. Experience building and leading a shop-floor team, including writing SOPs and running shift operations.

Strong numbers discipline:

OEE, cost per unit, downtime analysis, payback. Able to travel internationally (Europe for acceptance testing) roughly 10-20%. Authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Direct experience with high-speed paper converting, rod, wrap or fold machinery from a major European OEM (tobacco, tea bag, filter, straw or similar). Clean-room or GMP environment experience. Vendor management with European OEMs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Manufacturing floor environment with moving machinery, noise and paper dust. Requires standing and walking for extended periods, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, and working around energized equipment following lock-out/tag-out procedures. Extended hours during commissioning and start-up periods.
