Plant Mechanic assists with maintaining and repairing production equipment, pumps, piping systems, motors, valves, and other mechanical equipment used in chemical plant operations. The employee must perform all work safely and comply with company procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant machinery and equipment. Perform routine preventive-maintenance tasks according to established schedules. Assist with servicing pumps, motors, mixers, valves, piping systems, conveyors, compressors, and material-handling equipment. Use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and basic diagnostic equipment safely. Lubricate equipment and replace filters, belts, hoses, bearings, seals, and other worn components. Help identify mechanical problems, equipment leaks, unusual noises, excessive vibration, and unsafe operating conditions. Assist with equipment installation, modification, and replacement projects. Follow lockout/tagout, hot-work, line-breaking, and other applicable safety procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment and follow chemical-handling and hazard-communication requirements. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Complete maintenance work orders and accurately document repairs, inspections, and parts used. Report equipment failures, chemical releases, spills, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately. Participate in safety meetings, training programs, emergency drills, and incident investigations as required. Coordinate with production employees to minimize downtime and safely return equipment to service. Assist with maintaining an organized inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts. Perform other maintenance and plant-support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance. Ability to safely use common hand and power tools. Ability to read and follow written instructions, equipment manuals, safety procedures, and warning labels. Willingness to learn about pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and chemical-processing equipment. Dependable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to communicate equipment and safety concerns clearly. Ability to work scheduled shifts, overtime, weekends, or emergency call-ins when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Vocational or technical training in industrial maintenance, mechanics, welding, electrical systems, or a related field. Previous mechanical, automotive, manufacturing, construction, or industrial experience. Basic knowledge of preventive maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting. Forklift, aerial-lift, welding, or OSHA safety training.

Physical and Work Requirements:

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position may require the employee to: Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work in awkward positions. Lift and carry tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Work around chemicals, machinery, moving equipment, elevated work areas, noise, fumes, dust, and industrial odors. Wear safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear, hearing protection, chemical-resistant clothing, respiratory protection, and other required personal protective equipment. Complete required medical evaluations, fit testing, and safety training when applicable to assigned duties.
