Coordinator) City of Maumelle 550 Edgewood Drive Maumelle, AR 72113 (501) 851-2500 MaumelleHR@Maumelle.gov The Parks Operator maintains City parks, recreation facilities, grounds, equipment, and public amenities. The employee mows and landscapes grounds, services and repairs turf and maintenance equipment, maintains irrigation and sanitary facilities, prepares athletic fields and special-event spaces, applies turf-care treatments, and performs a wide range of general maintenance, repair, construction, and groundskeeping duties to keep City parks safe, clean, functional, and welcoming to the public. Mow and weed-eat Parks and Recreation Facilities. Clean and maintain shops, City vehicles, and equipment storage areas. Perform maintenance on deck mowers, reel mowers, infielders, tractors, and mules. Maintenance includes changing oil and filters, sharpening blades, checking tire pressure, coolant, greasing, etc. Help prepare for special events. Some events include Halloween (haunted house), Easter (egg hunt), Fishing Derby, the Valentine's Day Dance, and other special events throughout the year. Help string and paint soccer fields as needed. Repair leaks in the sprinkler systems and install or replace sprinkler heads and waterlines when needed. Spray turf-care chemicals (herbicides, insecticides, chelated iron, RoundUp, etc.). Clean and maintain bathrooms and waste receptacles at parks and other facilities. Ensure that these public facilities are functioning and sanitary at all times. Drive City vehicle between job sites to transport equipment and personnel as needed. Other miscellaneous jobs, as assigned. This may include any of the following: welding, electrical work, painting, mechanical work, plumbing, landscaping, carpentry (building/roof/structure repairs), garbage collection, inspecting playground equipment, hauling trailers and other equipment, installing French drains, aerating fields, brick, rock or stone masonry, laying carpet, cutting trees, splitting wood, and anything else that may be needed to maintain the parks and grounds. Complete other duties and tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to fulfill the essential duties are usually, although not always, acquired through the following: o High school diploma or general education degree (GED) o Two (2) years of related experience o Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

o Prior equipment operator experience/Parks & Recreation experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

o A valid Arkansas Class D Driver's License is required before employment, and must be maintained for the duration of employment in this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

o Knowledge of general parks and grounds maintenance practices, including mowing, trimming, edging, landscaping, planting, pruning, aeration, drainage, and turf maintenance. o Knowledge of the proper operation, care, cleaning, inspection, adjustment, and routine maintenance of commercial grounds-maintenance equipment, including deck mowers, reel mowers, tractors, infielders, utility vehicles, weed-eaters, blowers, and related equipment. o Knowledge of turf management principles, including mowing practices, fertilization, weed control, pest management, aeration, irrigation, and other practices necessary to maintain healthy athletic fields and landscaped areas. o Knowledge of the safe handling, storage, application, and disposal of herbicides, insecticides, turf-care products, and other chemicals, in accordance with product labels, applicable laws, regulations, and City procedures. o Knowledge of proper sanitation and cleaning practices for public restrooms, waste receptacles, maintenance shops, equipment storage areas, and other public facilities. o Knowledge of procedures and safety practices associated with athletic field preparation, including field layout, stringing, painting, aeration, drainage, and general field conditioning. o Knowledge of proper procedures for operating, loading, securing, transporting, and unloading equipment, trailers, materials, and supplies. o Knowledge of workplace and public safety practices applicable to parks, recreation facilities, groundskeeping, equipment operation, chemical application, traffic around work areas, and maintenance activities. o Knowledge of basic playground and public-amenity inspection practices, including the ability to identify obvious hazards, damage, deterioration, or unsafe conditions requiring corrective action. o Knowledge of customer-service principles and appropriate conduct when working in public parks and facilities used by residents, visitors, children, athletes, and community organizations. o Skill in mowing, trimming, edging, weed-eating, blowing, landscaping, and maintaining turf and landscaped areas to established standards. o Skill in performing routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, trailers, and other grounds-maintenance equipment. o Skill in recognizing equipment problems, unusual noises, leaks, worn or damaged components, and other conditions requiring maintenance or repair. o Skill in using hand tools, power tools, mechanic's tools, landscaping tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. o Skill in preparing and maintaining soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, and other athletic or recreational areas. o Skill in applying turf-care products in a safe, accurate, and controlled manner, consistent with label requirements and established procedures. o Skill in safely operating City vehicles and transporting personnel, tools, equipment, materials, and trailers between work locations. o Skill in following written and verbal instructions, work orders, schedules, safety procedures, and supervisory direction. o Skill in communicating effectively and courteously with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, other City employees, and members of the public. o Skill in establishing priorities and completing assigned work within established timeframes, particularly when responding to special events, facility needs, weather-related conditions, or urgent maintenance issues. o Ability to operate a wide variety of grounds-maintenance and construction equipment safely and effectively. o Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods under varying weather and environmental conditions. o Ability to safely perform work involving standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and repetitive movements. o Ability to lift, carry, load, unload, and move tools, equipment, materials, supplies, debris, and other objects consistent with the physical requirements of the position. o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while recognizing when a problem requires supervisory assistance or specialized expertise. o Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, facility deficiencies, irrigation problems, playground hazards, and other conditions that may affect public or employee safety. o Ability to perform a broad range of general maintenance and repair tasks and adapt to changing operational needs. o Ability to safely operate City vehicles and maintain a valid Arkansas Class D Driver's License as required by the position. o Ability to work effectively as part of a team and cooperate with employees from Parks and Recreation and other City departments. o Ability to interact professionally with members of the public while performing work in highly visible parks, recreation facilities, athletic fields, and community spaces. o Ability to work flexible schedules when necessary to support special events, tournaments, seasonal activities, emergencies, or other operational requirements. o Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond appropriately to changing conditions, including weather, equipment failures, facility issues, and special-event needs. o Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and common sense in carrying out assigned responsibilities. o Ability to work in an environment where duties may vary significantly from day to day and to perform miscellaneous maintenance and operational assignments as directed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Parks Operator works indoors and outdoors, primarily in parks, athletic fields, and other public areas. Work involves exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, dirt, insects, odors, fumes, chemicals, and uneven or wet surfaces. The employee operates and works around mowers, tractors, trailers, and other maintenance equipment. Noise levels range from moderate to high, particularly around motorized equipment.
