Job Summary:

The Shop Assistant is an entry-level support role focused on maintaining shop cleanliness and supporting mechanics with tools, parts, and minor maintenance tasks. This role provides exposure to fleet operations and serves as a steppingstone to Junior Mechanic.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Prepare tools, parts, and equipment for mechanic repairs and preventive maintenance. Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire replacements, and brake inspections. Maintain a clean and organized shop environment by: Sweeping floors, cleaning spills, and emptying trash. Organizing tools and supplies in designated areas. Maintaining the yard and ensuring proper storage of equipment. Conduct final cleanliness inspections on vehicles after repairs or maintenance. Clean vehicle exteriors and interiors, including: Pressure washing engine bays and undercarriages. Washing exteriors, wiping interiors, and removing trash. Input repair-related data into the fleet maintenance management system with accuracy and attention to detail. Participate in inspections to identify repair needs and assist in recommending corrective actions. Travel to Charge service territories as needed to support fleet operations. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Positive attitude and ability to collaborate in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks. Basic written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with basic hand tools and familiarity with power tools. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED. Background in industrial manufacturing, commercial maintenance, or construction is preferred.

Physical requirements:

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. or more. Ability to climb onto trucks and loads safely. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety standards. Obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
