Quiet, non-party household An Unusual Opportunity for the Right Person We are looking for a responsible, hands-on, resourceful person who would enjoy living on a private property while helping restore, organize, maintain, and improve the home and grounds. This is not a polished property that simply needs routine maintenance. The house currently needs some serious TLC. There is clutter to clear, floors and living areas that need cleaning and improvement, yard work to catch up on, and substantial potential for renovation and better use of the home's existing space. The right person will see that as an opportunity rather than a drawback. There is potential for basement build-out, bathroom construction/renovation, repairs, organization, landscaping, and numerous smaller projects that could significantly improve the property over time. We are particularly interested in someone with handyman, construction, maintenance, remodeling, or property-stewardship skills —but formal trade credentials are not required. Practical experience, good judgment, initiative, and the ability to figure things out are highly valued. What We Need Help With Depending on the candidate's skills and interests, responsibilities may include: General home and property maintenance Decluttering, sorting, organizing, hauling, and cleanup Deep cleaning and improving neglected areas of the home Improving the condition and appearance of floors and living spaces Yard cleanup, landscaping, trimming, and seasonal property care Basic carpentry and home repairs Painting, patching, drywall, assembly, and other improvement projects Basement build-out and finishing projects Bathroom construction or renovation Identifying practical solutions to property problems Helping coordinate or prepare for professional contractors when specialized work is needed General upkeep of tools, work areas, and project materials Caring for chickens, including feeding, watering, coop care, and basic observation Helping maintain a safe, functional, and increasingly comfortable home Skills That Would Be Especially Valuable Experience with any of the following would be a major plus: General handyman work Carpentry Bathroom remodeling Plumbing Drywall Flooring Painting Basic electrical work Landscaping Home renovation Property maintenance Decluttering/organization Poultry or animal care You do not have to be a professional contractor. Someone who has successfully renovated their own home, has strong mechanical/common-sense skills, or simply knows how to approach a problem and find a safe solution may be an excellent fit. The Living Arrangement This is a live-in position , with housing provided as part of the overall compensation arrangement. The home has a bathroom available to the resident(s), although the bathroom arrangement is somewhat shared . The homeowner has a separate private bathroom. The house is currently in a work-in-progress condition . Some areas need substantial cleaning, decluttering, and improvement, including flooring and general living-space conditions. We want to be completely upfront about that. The expectation is not that someone will simply move in and live with things exactly as they are. Part of the purpose of the arrangement is to find someone who wants to help improve the property over time. There is also one well-behaved dog on the property, as well as chickens. The household is intended to be quiet and respectful and is not a party environment . We are looking for someone who values a peaceful home and will respect the property, animals, homeowner, neighbors, and other occupants. Maximum occupancy is approximately 1-3 people , depending upon the individual circumstances and the living arrangement ultimately established. Flexibility & Compensation The anticipated commitment is approximately 25 hours per week , but this is intentionally somewhat flexible. The exact arrangement will depend significantly on the person we find. Someone with strong construction or handyman abilities who can take on larger improvement projects may be able to structure the arrangement differently from someone whose strengths are primarily in cleaning, yard care, organization, and general property maintenance. There may also be opportunities for additional small amounts of cash compensation ("petty cash") when work performed goes beyond the basic agreed-upon housing arrangement or involves particularly valuable skills/projects. The goal is to develop a fair, mutually beneficial arrangement based on the individual's abilities, the housing provided, the work being performed, and the needs of the property. Specific responsibilities, hours, housing arrangements, and any additional compensation will be discussed and agreed upon with the selected candidate.
