Job Description
Summary:
Under general supervision, assists in maintaining and enhancing public community spaces by providing general ground and landscape maintenance clean up support of park grounds, rights of way, structures, and facilities and the operation of related maintenance equipment. The Park Maintenance Worker is responsible for a wide variety of duties in the area of park and landscape maintenance, including landscaping, pruning, trimming, mowing, painting, and other general park maintenance work.- None.
- Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned.
- Picks up and removes trash prior to mowing a designated area.
- Maintain cleanliness of parks, public lands, streets, rights of way, and other public spaces.
- Empties trash and recycling containers at Town facilities and parks.
- Prepares soil and plants flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs.
- Plants trees and prunes them when necessary.
- Cut and removes trees as needed.
- Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
- Completes snow removal tasks such as shoveling sidewalks, steps, and doorways as needed during winter months.
- Performs routine maintenance on power equipment.
- Park inspections and reporting/repairing of vandalism damage.
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance.
- Cleans sidewalks, pathways and trails.
- Provides support for town events.
- Collects litter in trash in the parks, empties trash barrels.
- Checks and cleans outdoor restrooms.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons and staff through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem resolution.
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to park visitors and members of the public.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, coworkers and the general public.
- Supports and works respectfully within a team.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience preferred.
- On-the-job training offered.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Operate tools of the trade, for example: mower, edger, trimmer, backpack blower, post-hole digger and other related hand tools.
- Plan, conduct and perform the full range of maintenance duties.
- Maintain accurate reports and records.
- Read, interpret, and apply park rules and regulations.
- Work tactfully and courteously with those contacted in the course of work.
- Basic landscape maintenance techniques.
- Basic safety practices and procedures.

Environmental Requirements:
Approximately 95% of this position's duties are performed in the external environment, with 5% performed in an internal environment. The incumbent is occasionally exposed to adverse weather, odors, dust, mist and gases, and toxic and caustic chemicals. The incumbent is frequently exposed to loud noises associated with heavy equipment in operation.Other Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to pass a background check that is acceptable to the Town of Parachute.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and random drug screens thereafter.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Clean professional appearance.
- Must be able to work weekends.
- Must be able to work varied shifts to accommodate the town's needs.
- Must be 18 years or older.
