Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide maintenance and repairs of facilities and amenities on City property and specifically within the City's park system. Employees in this classification perform manual, semi-skilled work and are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment as well as proper methods, procedures and techniques related to maintenance and repair of facilities. Work frequently includes the performance of heavy lifting and other strenuous tasks. The full-time Maintenance Worker position is critical for the daily park operations of Mullins Park. Mullins Park consists of 62 acres that includes over a mile in walking paths, playground, basketball / tennis courts, sand volleyball court, baseball fields, football / soccer fields, and three rental hall facilities. This position may be assigned to other Parks locations as needed based on department operations.

Days/Hours:

Monday through Friday, 7 AM

• 3:30 PM (may include nights/weekends/holidays/special events)
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and address deficiencies before they become major repairs.
• Repair and maintain various amenities of City parks and public properties through a program of routine maintenance and inspections based on all applicable standards and codes. Typical examples of work include, but are not limited to the repair, maintenance and installation of fencing, asphalt, concrete, signs and signposts.
• Assist other Divisions with various tasks as needed.

This includes but is not limited to general maintenance and cleaning of parks grounds and buildings, tree and landscape trimming and maintenance, painting, plumbing, pressure cleaning, irrigation repairs, repair and maintenance of playground equipment, wind screen and netting installation, maintain lighting fixtures and replacing non-electrical components, assembly and installation of amenities like benches, picnic tables trash receptacles, and office furniture.

• Operates, maintains and services equipment including, but not limited to, aerial lifts, chainsaws, power pruners, brush chippers, loader or combination units, skid steer loaders, stump grinder, dump trucks, vehicle/trailer combinations, pressure washers, and other tools and equipment related to the job.
• Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.
• Knowledge of the hazards involved in the use of equipment, tools, and of the safety precautions that need to be taken.
• Knowledge of setting up and maintaining Temporary Traffic Control devices and work zones.
• Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions related to maintenance operations.
• Complete assignments in a safe and timely manner, meeting quality standards.
• Continue development of jobs skills and knowledge related to tree care maintenance through various training programs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, the public, and City officials.

High school diploma or GED preferred. Demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Florida Class "B" CDL License preferred. Experience in tree maintenance, landscape maintenance and use of tools and equipment related to tree care maintenance and operations is required. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
