Job Description
The purpose of this position is to performs semi-skilled and skilled work involving: the installation, maintenance and repair of the city's infrastructure in a safe, effective, and efficient manner in order to protect public health and safety; or, the, streets, utilities, and general maintenance of City public rights of way. Duties are contingent upon assigned department. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks. The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Performs installation, construction, maintenance and repair of city infrastructures to include streets, sidewalks, bridges, and drainage systems. Perform manual and/or laboring activities and general maintenance tasks in area of assignment. Depending on area of assignment may operate, or assist with the operation of a variety of power tools, light and/or heavy equipment, and motorized vehicles. Clean graffiti from City streets and structures. Clean sidewalks And streets Assist street maintenance crews in removing and compacting earth with shovels, clearing debris, picking up litter, and carrying tools and equipment. Assists with installation, maintenance, removals and repair of manholes, pumps, lift stations and related infrastructure. Assists with locating and repairing utilities Assists in general work orders. Assists with building and repairing manholes and other related facilities. Load and unload materials on trucks; transport employees, materials, tools and/or equipment to and from appropriate locations. Ensure availability of needed materials and supplies. Visually check equipment and report maintenance or repair problems at the beginning and the end of the workday, assuring equipment is properly equipped, serviced and cleaned. Dig trenches and install pipes as applicable. Respond to public complaints and correct any discrepancies. Identify safety issues, correct all discrepancies and report all activities to immediate supervisor.
