Job Description

The Maintenance Staff is responsible for the overall care, maintenance, functionality, and appearance of all indoor and outdoor components of our 3 building campus. This includes daily oversight of facility operations, supervision of maintenance support staff, coordination of all external vendors and contractors, and hands-on responsibility for repairs, cleanliness, and event support. The Facility Manager plays a key role in ensuring that the synagogue is safe, welcoming, well-maintained, and fully prepared to support religious services, programs, and community events.
Primary Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance & Repairs Oversee and maintain all building systems and infrastructure, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general facility components. Perform regular inspections of the premises to identify and address repair needs (e.g., lighting, ceiling tiles, furniture, doors, etc.). Coordinate and supervise external contractors and vendors for services including HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, and electrical work. Manage the vendor bidding process when repairs or services require multiple estimates. Custodial Oversight & Supplies Oversee the cleanliness of all restrooms and public areas. Coordinate closely with the nightly contracted cleaning team to ensure standards of cleanliness and restocking are met. Supervise the on-site Facility Assistant (currently Amparo) and Maintenance Assistant, assigning and monitoring daily responsibilities. Order and maintain inventory of all cleaning and maintenance supplies. Waste Management & Grounds Maintain proper function and cleanliness of dumpsters and their enclosures, communication with waste management company as needed. Ensure scheduled waste pickups and avoid overages through appropriate management of disposal practices. Event & Program Support Manage facility and room setup for all internal meetings, lifecycle events, religious services, holidays, and community programs. Provide on-site support for special events and holidays, including setup, takedown, and any required assistance during the event. Signage & Communication Update the outdoor marquee sign as directed by synagogue office staff to ensure timely and accurate messaging. Compliance & Safety Schedule all required building and safety inspections and maintain accurate documentation and logs. Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies and remain available for after-hours issues as needed. Additional Responsibilities Participate in planning for facility upgrades, capital projects, and long-term maintenance initiatives. Handle any additional facility-related tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of facility management, maintenance supervision, or related experience (religious or nonprofit facility experience a plus). Demonstrated knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and vendor coordination. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on repair and setup work. Comfortable using basic computer applications (email, calendars, spreadsheets). Professional demeanor with the ability to work in a community-oriented environment. Availability to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
This is a full-time position with occasional evening or weekend hours required for holidays and events (flex time will be granted). Compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits include PTO and paid holidays
