Job Description

The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a 2nd Shift Maintenance Worker I at the Water Treatment Plant. This position reports to the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. This position is full-time, and is assigned to 2nd Shift (approximately 2:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m.) with a minimum starting wage of $27.07 per hour. Wage increases to $31.29 per hour after one (1) year of service. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract. DUTIES:
Ø Collects samples, conducts lab tests, or orders lab tests to be performed; Ø Reads meters, gauges, and dials and maintains logs of readings; Ø Regulates water levels in all units; Ø Reviews plant log records, gauges, meters, and monitors other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly Ø Responds to emergency calls; Ø Performs plant maintenance, including repair and overhaul maintenance of equipment; Ø Performs laboratory tasks and conducts required EPA and IEPA tests; Ø Orders chemicals and applies chemicals; Ø Operates the water treatment plant in compliance with IEPA standards; Ø Performs a variety of vehicular operational tasks such as plowing snow, hauling salt, transporting stone and gravel, equipment, supplies, etc. Ø Operates a tractor with power mower, rotary, or side bar attachment; Ø Services and performs minor repairs on equipment; Ø Monitors gauges, dials, and takes measurements and samples; Ø Maintains records and files; Ø Ensures safety of operations; Ø Performs other duties in coordination with other divisions of the Public Works Department, as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school education or G.E.D.;
  • Three (3) to six (6) months of related experience or training;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
  • Possess Class A-D WTP Operator License from IEPA;
  • Six (6) months to twelve (12) months of related experience or training;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
