Full-time (Non-Exempt) • Day shift with occasional OT/on-call support About the role Paducah Housing Authority is seeking a dependable Maintenance Assistant to support technicians with daily repairs, unit turns, and preventive maintenance across our residential communities. This is a hands-on role for someone who's safety-minded, organized, and ready to learn multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC basics). What you'll do Assist technicians with work orders : routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance. Help with unit turnovers (patch/paint, flooring touchups, fixture swaps, cleaning). Perform basic repairs (door hardware, lighting, minor plumbing, caulking, drywall patch). Complete grounds/common-area tasks as needed (trash pickup, light groundskeeping, pressure wash). Use and care for hand/power tools ; inspect equipment and report issues. Keep shops, closets, and vehicles clean and organized; help track parts/supplies . Document work (time, parts, notes) in a simple work order system . Follow
OSHA/PPE
rules and site safety procedures at all times. Provide professional, courteous service to residents and staff. What you'll need High school diploma/GED preferred. 6+ months of maintenance, construction, apartment turnover, or related experience (1-2 years preferred). Basic skills with hand/power tools and comfort learning multiple trades. Valid driver's license and insurable driving record, and Car insurance. Basic computer/phone skills for work orders, email, and photos. Strong communication , reliability, and teamwork; able to follow instructions and work independently. Nice to have (preferred) Experience in apartment/community maintenance or property turns. Exposure to HVAC , basic electrical/plumbing troubleshooting, and appliance swaps. Familiarity with Fair Housing awareness and working in residential settings. Physical & work conditions Work indoors/outdoors in all weather ; stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb. Lift/move up to 50-75 lbs using proper technique and equipment. Work on ladders , in confined spaces , and around typical maintenance/grounds hazards— PPE required . Screening & employment requirements Pre-employment drug screen and MVR ; background per policy. Ability to be insured under the Authority's vehicle policy and covered under the Authority's fidelity bond .
