Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, an active congregation in Baltimore City, is seeking a live-in caretaker (Sexton). In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for maintaining event readiness, safety, and overall upkeep of our sacred and historic space. Your energy and attention to detail will ensure that the church environment remains welcoming, functional, and inspiring for worshippers, staff, and visitors alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to blend practical maintenance skills with a passion for supporting religious services and community events. Duties This part-time position (est. 30 hrs/week) involves setting up tables, chairs, podium, sound equipment and other physical plant duties for events and Sunday services, including adjusting lights & thermostats and monitoring windows & doors and setting alarm for building security. Set up and break down furniture, audio-visual equipment, hymnals, and other materials needed for services, concerts, and special events. Conduct inspections of the church facilities to identify maintenance needs such as lighting issues, plumbing concerns, or structural repairs. Coordinate with custodial staff or vendors for larger repairs or cleaning projects requiring specialized skills. Maintain inventory of supplies including cleaning materials, and technical equipment to ensure readiness for all activities. Position requires rent-free residence in the 1,500 Sq. Ft. apartment within the building. Ideal position for a couple or individual. Skills Ability to lift 40 lbs. Willingness to live on site. The sexton's duties require climbing stairs and ladders. Competence in maintaining the physical condition of the church's facilities through basic repairs or coordinating specialized maintenance tasks.
