Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform pipe repairs and installations; clean and flush mains; isolate breaks; operate construction equipment such as jackhammers and hydraulic tools; landscape work sites; and maintain accurate records. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, four years of sewer maintenance or related experience, and a valid driver's license. ________________________________________________________________________________
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Perform inspections of water and/or sewer lines and equipment. Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and functional before and after work is to be performed. Repairs and installs new services and city main lines; cuts, fits, cleaning and flushing of the water/sewer mains. Assists in isolating broken sections of water mains/services for repairs and installation of pipes, valves and fittings, fire hydrants, water pump and lift stations. Landscapes work area after repairs/installations. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment; such as jack hammers, tampers, drills, saws and hydraulic equipment. Works on sewer crew installing, repairing and maintaining sewer lines, force mains, lift stations and manholes. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Maintain detailed and accurate accounts and records of employee labor hours. Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Graduation or GED equivalent. Four years of sewer maintenance or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs very heavy work that involves constantly lifting, shoveling, and carrying 50 to 75 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on a frequent basis.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license to be in good standing and acceptable by the City of Cambridge's insurance company.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
All City of Cambridge employees are subject to a one (1) year probationary period provision as specified in the employee handbook. Probationary, temporary, provisional, and seasonal employees serve at the pleasure of the City and are "At-Will."
