NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, technical, and operational support to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Duties:
This project's primary purpose is to assist with maintenance of refuge facilities and equipment at Seney National Wildlife Refuge and other lands in its complex. A large component of this project will be working on facility repairs and road maintenance.
Facilitate, troubleshoot, and perform facility maintenance, for example: repair of residence chimneys and wood stoves, replace residence exhaust fans, evaluate and repair observation decks, explore boardwalk replacement options, repair iconic signage to match historic style. 30%
Facilitate, troubleshoot, and perform installation projects. For example, kiosk and sign installation, fencing around fire tower, icon signage at top of fire tower. 25%
Assist with road maintenance and repair as needed. For example, grading, resurfacing, repair, and mowing of backcountry roads. 25%
Facilitate, troubleshoot and perform maintenance on equipment. 10%
Other miscellaneous tasks. 10%
Qualifications:
HS/GED Degree in non-specific degree or undergraduate degree required with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in Facilities maintenance and heavy equipment operation.
Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Required Certifications:
Valid drivers license. Federal Heavy Equipment Operator highly desired. Online defensive driver training - will be provided. CDL Class A is a plus but not required.

Health and Safety Considerations:
Heavy equipment operation can be hazardous. All enrollees will be required to complete FWS Tier 1 and/or Tier 2 equipment training. Computer training will be required before accessing government computers if needed for this project. All training will be conducted after the assignment of the enrollee(s) to the position. Additional training may be required based on the needs of the project.
Required Safety Gear:
Safety toe boots, work gloves, hearing and eye protection will be required. Additional PPE may be required based on the needs of the project.

Physical requirements: Enrollees will be expected to work in facilities and field conditions. Exposure to a wide range of temperatures, biting insects, unlevel terrain, loud noises, and vibrations should be expected. Manual dexterity required for operation of equipment and safety checks. Lifting upwards of 50 lbs. may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
