This hands-on position plays a vital role in maintaining the green spaces that help keep our community safe, clean, and welcoming. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial mowing and/or tree work and a strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and quality service. Regular duties include maintaining city-owned properties, landscaping, mowing, tree care, and operating various equipment.
Normal Shift:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Key Responsibilities Perform tree care including planting, watering, pruning, and removals. Maintain landscaping features such as shrubs, perennials, flower displays, mulching, and weed control. Support City programs including the Street Tree Program, holiday decorating, and special projects. Complete grounds maintenance including mowing, planting, pruning, trimming, and irrigation system upkeep. Maintain parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and trails. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed. Operate and perform minor maintenance on light/heavy equipment, tools, and vehicles, including Class "B" CDL vehicles with air brakes. Assist with snow and ice removal during winter months. Perform minor maintenance on buildings, facilities, and pools (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical). Collaborate across teams on turf care, concrete/asphalt work, and heavy equipment operations. Adhere to all City safety standards and complete other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker. High School graduate or GED certificate. One (1) year of applicable experience. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and carry it a reasonable distance and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 lbs. Must have a Class "B" with air brakes CDL valid in the state of Missouri or obtain within 120 days of employment. Commercial drivers' instruction permit (CDIP) must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Why Join Us?
