Center for Hope and Safety, located in Bergen County NJ, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic violence and their children. We believe every person has the right to be safe, empowered and free from violence. The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Property Manager with all aspects of property management for six (6) sites throughout Bergen County, NJ. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week, on the day shift.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conduct monthly maintenance reviews at emergency shelter and transitional houses. Conduct daily cleanup of shelter property (i.e. entrances, playground, garbage areas, driveway, etc.) Remove office garbage. Make weekly trips to recycling center with glass, cans, plastic and paper. Maintain property/landscape (i.e. water the lawn, flowers, and shrubs, remove twigs, etc.). Shovel snow, and salt all walkways and steps as necessary. Provide maintenance assistance and repair work at all transitional houses. Assist Property Manager with furniture and equipment inventory update. Move/remove furniture as needed. Complete repair work and painting. Work with carpenter for more complex repairs/projects. Work with repair vendors and contractors when requested. Professional Responsibilities Maintain strict confidentiality of all survivor, employee, donor, volunteer, and organizational information. Demonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, and respect in all interactions. Support the Center's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and survivor empowerment. Perform other duties as assigned to support agency operations and the evolving needs of survivors.
Requirements:
Qualifications HS Diploma required, higher degree preferred Minimum 1 year maintenance experience preferred Valid driver's license required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal skills Motivated self-starter Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently, and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to the mission and values of the Center for Hope and Safety Physical Requirements Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs or ladders as required Able to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50lbs Able to perform repetitive movements (i.e. reaching, grasping, gripping, and using hand tools) Able to safely operate and maneuver maintenance equipment and tools Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions Ability to perform tasks in confined, elevated, or hard-to-reach areas when required.
