Maintenance/Groundskeeping Helper Town of Union Vale Parks & Recreation Department Full-Time Position The Town of Union Vale is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Helper in Tymor Park for the Parks & Recreation Department. This is a full-time position, with a fixed schedule including (1) weekend day. The following is indicative of types of activities performed by a Maintenance/Groundskeeping Helper. It is not meant to be all-inclusive.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

• Maintains lawns and grounds
• Cleans grounds of refuse, debris, and similar materials
• Performs groundskeeping activities such as seeding, fertilization, and watering
• Maintains equipment used in grounds maintenance
• Drives motor equipment (gators, trucks, tractors, lawn mowers) as required for grounds maintenance and related tasks
• Dusts chairs, tables, desks, and other furniture
• Replaces defective fuses and light bulbs
• Sweeps, mops, washes, strips, waxes and oils floors
• May occasionally maintain watch over buildings
• May perform minor maintenance tasks of an unskilled nature
• Assists in a variety of tasks in regard to the upkeep of building such as cleaning, washing windows and scrubbing floors
• Cleans lavatories, hallways, rugs and metal work
• Performs minor carpentry work such as simple repairs to desks, tables, office furniture and shelving
• Prepares surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, washing, and applying paint and varnish removed
• Assists in the upkeep of grounds by mowing lawns, raking, trimming shrubbery and taking care of flower beds
• Collects and helps remove trash and garbage
• Helps remove snow and ice from walks and driveways
• Operates snowplow, spreads sand and salt
• Does related work as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• The ideal candidate should be adaptable, flexible, and dependable
• Must be an independent worker, motivated and willing to work hard to join this team

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Valid New York State Driver's license
