Duties Description The duties of the Trades Generalist will include, but not be limited to, the following: Assist with inspecting and determining the section's maintenance needs and make recommendations for repair, materials, and work request priorities. Perform repairs in plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and equipment, including setting priorities, requisitioning materials, determining the work to be done, and laying out the work. Assist other trades with repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and equipment. Plan and lay out construction, repair, and maintenance projects, and have a working knowledge of the tools of the carpentry trade and standard carpentry techniques. Use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the projects assigned. Track supplies and materials to ensure they are used properly. Perform general grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing sites, mowing lawns, maintaining roads and sidewalks, snow and ice removal, collection/pick-up of trash and other obstructions. Periodic travel may be required to other sections; to attend training; or other requirements related to duties as needed. Incumbent may be responsible for supervising others in maintenance, repair, installation and construction activities. Understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Employees must possess a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS at the time of appointment & continuously maintain it thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination.
