Job Description

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT I PART-TIME 20 HOURS PER WEEK
Euclid Public Library is seeking a responsible, detail oriented, self-starter to fill an open part-time Maintenance Assistant I position. Primary duties include but are not limited to. opening the building, cleaning restrooms, mopping floors, vacuuming, office cleaning, trash removal, snow removal, and meeting room set-up.
Minimum requirements:
high school diploma, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Some related work experience and a valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred. Work requires heavy/hard physical effort, lifting or moving heavy materials or furniture weighing thirty pounds or more; shoveling snow, climbing ladders; frequent bending, stooping, and/or kneeling, fair working conditions.
Work hours:
20 hours per week Monday through Friday 6:30am - 10:30am; Sunday rotation 11:00am - 2:00pm (October.to May). Schedule subject to change based on the needs of the library.
Hourly pay rate:
$12.98 with some paid leave benefits. Date of posting September 14, 2026, until filled

The Maintenance Assistant I assists in accomplishing that mission by performing housekeeping, groundskeeping, and building services.
POSITION DUTIES 80
% Housekeeping Cleans and disinfects washrooms and refills supplies Cleans and dusts bookshelves and end panels Cleans and sanitizes furniture, woodwork, offices, service desks, & public computers Cleans windows, doors, walls, baseboards, ceiling fixtures, etc. Empties trash and cleans trash containers Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and buffs tile floors Vacuums, cleans/spot cleans carpets/upholstery, and mats 10% Building Services Empties book and video drops Opens and closes building for staff and public, performs building security check Receives and distributes supplies and materials; moves furniture and equipment Replaces light bulbs Sets up meeting rooms and takes down tables and chairs 5% Grounds Keeping Shovels snow and runs snow thrower; salts walks and parking lot Sweeps walks and parking lots; picks up litter and debris 5% Miscellaneous Alerts supervisor to problems encountered in work routine Attends meetings and serves on internal committees Directs patrons to appropriate areas of the library Participates in the Strategic Planning process Delivers board packets and runs errands, as assigned Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training sessions Sends and receives email and reads information on the Internet Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience High School diploma, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience Valid Ohio driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred Some maintenance work experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds for the purpose of providing professional service Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a personable and professional manner Ability to work independently and perform work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of emergency and maintenance equipment operation
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping and housekeeping methods
  • Knowledge of moving and lifting methods
  • Working knowledge of library policies, procedures and services
  • Knowledge of the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights
  • Knowledge of Core Competencies required for position
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
  • Understanding of patron confidentiality requirements and ethics responsibilities under Ohio law
  • Working knowledge of e-mail and other online resources May be acquired after hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires heavy/hard physical effort includes working with hand tools; lifting or moving heavy materials or furniture weighing thirty pounds or more; shoveling snow; climbing ladders or working from lift at 25 to 30 feet. Frequent bending, stooping, and/or kneeling. Requires the ability to communicate and exchange information and prepare work documents.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work performed in fair working conditions - frequently subjected to poor physical or environmental conditions and/or health and safety hazards. There is daily use of a computer. Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and requires periodic participation at library events and meetings.
