Job Description

We are seeking a dependable and flexible Utility Assistant to help maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment within our skilled nursing and assisted living facility. This role supports both the maintenance and environmental services teams by assisting with basic maintenance projects and providing housekeeping coverage as needed. The Utility Assistant plays an important role in ensuring residents, staff, and visitors experience a well-maintained and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service by responding respectfully and promptly to maintenance and housekeeping needs within the facility. Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting, furniture moves, room setup, and preventative maintenance projects. Help prepare rooms for resident admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns throughout the facility. Perform cleaning and sanitation duties in resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and clinical spaces when covering housekeeping shifts. Follow infection control procedures when using cleaning chemicals and equipment. Dispose of waste and soiled materials according to facility and regulatory standards. Restock housekeeping and sanitation supplies as needed. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner. Support facility safety initiatives and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment for residents and staff. Interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff while maintaining privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Provide backup support to housekeeping and environmental services during staffing shortages or increased census.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in maintenance, housekeeping, environmental services, or facility support preferred. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and pushing carts for extended periods. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with safety procedures. Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist across departments based on facility needs. Basic understanding of infection control and workplace safety practices. Strong teamwork and communication skills; comfortable working in a resident-centered healthcare environment.
