Maintenance Manager Basic Function :
The Temporary Maintenance Assistant functions as part of the hatchery operations team in achieving PWSAC's mission. Under general supervision performs preventative maintenance and repair duties for the efficient operation of the overall hatchery facility, equipment, and systems. The role performs work across multiple trades, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural repairs to ensure the efficient facility operation.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Assitant works closely with the Maintenance Department to perform preventative and routine maintenance, repair, and improvement of the facilities, equipment, and systems. Description of essential duties and responsibilities: Organize shop and other maintenance inventory for spare parts Assist in performing maintenance and repair on generators, hatchery heating and hot water systems, pumps and fuel distribution systems, water recycle system, lake pump house and emergency pump system, lighting systems, emergency fire systems, hatchery domestic water and wastewater system Follow all assigned fueling instructions Fabricate new tools and equipment as needed Follow preventative maintenance schedules for all hatchery equipment such as hydroelectric turbine generators, diesel generators, front-end loaders, pickup trucks, gas pumps, outboard motors, welders, cement mixers, steam cleaners, pressure washers, snow removal equipment, and power tools Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure operational efficiency Diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions by referencing blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts Complete architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical system preventative maintenance as assigned Perform general cleaning, painting, and repairs to roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other building components Perform preventative and reactive maintenance tasks to maintain residential and commercial appliances such as hot water heaters, boilers, stoves/ovens, coolers, and freezers Maintain logs of maintenance activities and prepare monthly reports, special reports, and studies Use computers and web-based software for data entry, analysis, and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) Recommend procedures, techniques, and new equipment to improve work efficiencies or adaptation to new techniques Effectively interact with the public and direct inquiries appropriately Comply with safety procedures and polices Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in various trades such as mechanical, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and plastering Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction, maintenance, and repair Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural issues Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building trades Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, manuals, standard operating procedures, and layouts Proficiency in using computer applications for maintenance documentation, reporting, budgeting, and communication Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Clear written and verbal communication skills Ability to organize time and prioritize activities Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently within a team environment
Essential Functions:
Work performed at any hatchery or remote location as needed Must be able to move about freely with frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and crawling Repetitive use of hands for handling, controlling, and feeling tools, equipment, and materials Lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects, tools, and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) Climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights Requires working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy environments Exposure to hazardous equipment and conditions, requiring adherence to safety protocols Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in a cold and wet environment Ability to climb aboard and move about freely on vessels and small aircraft Work in and around water, whether on docks, floats, ponds, or raceway channels Use telephones and computers unimpaired Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language Must be able to hear and see to receive verbal and written instructions

Minimum qualifications:
Post-secondary training in an accredited vocational-training school in one of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades
Substitutions:
