Job Description

This is an entry-level, full-time, non-exempt position that performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of public buildings and City facilities. Identify and repair maintenance issues throughout City facilities. Adhere to preventative maintenance schedule throughout City facilities. Change air filters and water filters as outlined in the preventative maintenance schedule. Replace ceiling tiles. Painting of city facilities. Including but not limited to building interior, building exterior, handrails and light poles. Removes ice and snow from public sidewalks and City parking lots. Performs minor carpentry and plumbing. Report mechanical or other problems with truck; keeps truck stocked with supplies and materials. Answers emergency calls from employees taking appropriate action, such as water on the floor of public buildings, water leaking from ceilings, etc. Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday Provides courteous customer service responding to questions and inquiries from the employees and responds to customer problems or issues and facility repair. participates in training new employees in work practices and in how to apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations. Maintains records of basic operations, maintenance and work performed This position is required to be on call periodically throughout the year. Performs occasional general custodial work in public buildings. Assist in the set up and breakdown of special events. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Construction skills such as carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, roofing, and welding. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills for fixing maintenance issues. Administrative skills for ordering supplies, handling records and scheduling maintenance. Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move and handle equipment. Stamina to deal with long hours standing or walking. Strong verbal and written communication for discussing maintenance issues. ability to work in extreme hot or cold conditions. Organizational and time management skill
EDUCATION
Requires a High School Diploma or
GED. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Constant exposure to all weather conditions (sometimes severe). Walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Exposure to airborne dust and loud noises. Frequent climbing of ladders of up to 12' above ground. Driving and working on slippery surfaces. Working with toxic substances. Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds, lifting above shoulders. Ability to work in confined and cramped spaces, repetitive hand motion, climb in/out of ditches, turn valves, lift and carry pipes, dig ditches. Continuous standing, frequent walking, and stooping, reaching pushing/pulling and twisting of wrist in use of tools, small motor skills, and climbing flights of stairs.
