In this role, you will work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to support facility operations, maintain outdoor spaces, assist with building maintenance, and help create a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities The following duties are representative of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned. Plant, maintain, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscaping features throughout the campus. Prune trees, shrubs, and plants to maintain appearance and safety. Mow lawns, rake leaves, remove debris, and maintain walkways and outdoor common areas. Maintain sprinkler systems and assist with watering of landscaping and potted plants. Apply herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and other landscape treatments as directed. Operate lawn mowers, edgers, landscaping equipment, hand tools, and other grounds maintenance equipment. Operate vehicles and equipment associated with groundskeeping and facility maintenance activities. Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools. Assist with maintenance of parking lots, sidewalks, gutters, drainage systems, and facility exteriors. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entryways, and designated areas when required. Operate snow removal equipment as needed. Assist with building maintenance projects under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. Assist with painting, flooring, furniture repair, equipment maintenance, and general facility upkeep. Install shelves, replace light bulbs, assist with plumbing repairs, and perform other minor maintenance tasks. Assist in maintaining heating, cooling, kitchen, laundry, and utility systems. Monitor buildings and grounds for maintenance issues and assist with work order completion. Participate in minor remodeling, renovation, and construction projects when assigned. Assist students in maintaining personal living areas and provide guidance regarding appropriate use of maintenance equipment when applicable. Support the Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning campus environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be able to read, write, and follow routine oral and written instructions.
Experience:
At least one year of grounds maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with landscaping, groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or related work preferred. Experience operating landscaping and maintenance equipment preferred.
Certifications & Training:
Current CPR certification required. Current First Aid certification required. Completion of all required onboarding, safety, and facility maintenance training. Participation in ongoing safety and maintenance-related training as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of grounds construction, landscaping, and grounds maintenance practices. Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, and related grounds care products. Ability to safely operate lawn maintenance and landscaping equipment. Working knowledge of basic building maintenance practices. Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks independently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a professional appearance of facility grounds. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of required state background checks. Candidates are initially hired as Maintenance Staff Trainees and may not have student contact while state background checks are processing. Completion of assigned training requirements during the trainee period. Once the state background check is returned and cleared, the title transitions to Maintenance Staff and floor shadowing may begin. Verification of employment history, certifications, and other applicable credentials.
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORKING REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull landscaping materials, tools, and equipment. Ability to safely operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions. Ability to visually inspect grounds, landscaping, buildings, and equipment. Ability to safely perform snow and ice removal activities when required.
Work Environment:
Residential treatment center environment serving adolescents. Regular work outdoors maintaining lawns, landscaping, parking areas, and facility grounds. Frequent interaction with maintenance staff, students, and facility personnel. Work may include exposure to varying weather conditions, landscaping equipment, and maintenance tools. Supports overall campus appearance, safety, and facility operations.
