Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, will perform routine semi-skilled work in the area of park maintenance engaging in a variety of labor-intensive tasks.
Hours Required for this position:
24-40 ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS
Mowing, string trimming, and landscaping Maintenance of athletic fields such as baseball, softball, football, and soccer Light construction, general carpentry, and moving Housekeeping, cleaning and general custodial work Maintenance and cleaning of a large variety of park and maintenance equipment Departmental Special Event and Tournament Support Assisting with Roanoke County snow removal operations as needed Candidate work schedule will vary depending on need and quantity of work. Schedules are determined weekly. Candidate works varied days, shifts, weekends, holidays and is subject to on-call response if needed. The position is directly supervised, assigned duties and scheduled for work by the Parks Crew Leader and Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Required:
Some experience in the operation of motorized equipment and performance of general maintenance activities
Certifications/ Licenses Required:
Valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the operation of pick-up trucks and trailers and motorized maintenance equipment and manual tools General knowledge of traffic rules and regulations as related to the operation of maintenance vehicles General knowledge in the use and care of common hand, electric and gas-powered tools. Ability to maintain and repair a wide range of facilities and equipment, which may involve carpentry, painting, masonry repairs or other skills Ability to perform 24 hour on-call responsibilities and work varied shifts as assigned Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. safety labels, and warnings Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable work or weather conditions Ability to understand and follow instructions relating to the safe usage of tools, chemicals, and other materials Ability to organize and perform maintenance functions independently without work-site supervision Ability to demonstrate mathematical aptitude to layout athletic fields. Additional Requirements Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results. Following a conditional offer of employment, must pass a post offer physical examination. Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.
