Districtwide Maintenance Position Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance across district school buildings and facilities to maintain a safe, functional, and efficient learning environment. Primary duties include maintaining and repairing building structures, interiors, and mechanical systems. Grounds care—including limited lawn maintenance and snow or ice removal—serves as a secondary responsibility. The incumbent schedules and records work, supports custodial supply distribution, and may work variable shifts or weekend rotations as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform skilled and semi-skilled repairs on school buildings, including carpentry, painting, drywall, masonry, flooring, doors, locks, windows, and structural components. Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing (fixtures, drains, lines), and electrical components (lighting, outlets, breakers, ballasts); shut down systems safely during emergencies. Conduct routine facility and grounds inspections for safety hazards, maintenance needs, and code compliance; resolve minor issues and report major needs to the supervisor. Respond to work orders and emergency service calls (including after-hours) for repairs, utility shut-offs, and building security. Maintain logs of maintenance activities, equipment service, and inventory, and assist with preventive maintenance scheduling. Set up, adjust, and tear down furniture and equipment for school events, routines, and educational programs. Perform secondary grounds duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and landscape upkeep using commercial mowers, power tools, and heavy equipment (e.g., Bobcat/Toolcat). Clear snow and ice from walkways, stairs, parking lots, and entrances using plows, blowers, shovels, and de-icing materials to ensure safe campus access. Help manage, store, and distribute custodial supplies, paper products, and maintenance materials across district sites. Provide basic custodial support as needed, such as operating floor care equipment and cleaning up after maintenance tasks. Follow all safety protocols, including the correct use of tools, adherence to Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and maintaining safe working conditions. Communicate effectively and promptly with supervisors, staff, and external stakeholders via spoken, written, and digital channels. Maintain regular attendance and perform other assigned duties as required. Qualifications Ability to physically perform all essential job duties and responsibilities. Demonstrated proficiency in building maintenance and facility repair. High school diploma or equivalent; technical coursework or trade training in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry preferred. Valid Wisconsin driver's license (or ability to obtain one). Valid WI pesticide applicator license preferred (or ability to obtain). Proven ability to interpret and follow work orders, schedules, safety warnings, and technical equipment manuals. Skill in operating building repair equipment (ladders, lifts, power tools) and outdoor machinery (mowers, snowplows, skid steers). Experience using hand and power tools across multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical). Ability to regularly lift up to 80 pounds and fulfill heavy physical labor requirements. Prior maintenance experience in a school environment or multi-building facility is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and operating tools and heavy machinery. Candidates must be able to lift, push, and pull equipment, speak and hear clearly for communication and safety alerts, and analyze work instructions or computer data. Work takes place indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions, heights, and elevated noise levels (e.g., mechanical rooms, grounds equipment).
