Job Description

Maintenance Superintendent - Qualifications & Experience The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance, appearance, and overall quality of parks, sports fields, landscaped areas, and related public facilities within our Dublin operation. This position requires a strong combination of hands-on field experience, technical knowledge of turf and landscape maintenance, proven leadership ability, and administrative skills. The Superintendent will oversee a large field staff working across multiple locations and will report directly to the Director of Operations. The successful candidate will be expected to provide strong field leadership, effectively manage daily operations, maintain high standards of quality and safety, and ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with client expectations. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of experience in parks maintenance, turf management, sports turf, golf course maintenance, landscape maintenance, or a closely related field. Previous supervisory or management experience overseeing large crews of at least 25 and multiple work locations. Demonstrated experience managing daily field operations, including employee scheduling, work assignments, inspections, productivity, quality control, and completion of scheduled maintenance activities. Strong practical knowledge and hands-on experience in agronomy, turfgrass management, horticulture, landscape management, or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of turfgrass maintenance, mowing practices, fertilization, irrigation, pruning, weed control, plant health, and general landscape maintenance. Experience identifying and diagnosing turf and landscape conditions, including disease, insects, weeds, irrigation deficiencies, soil conditions, and other factors affecting plant and turf health. Working knowledge of fertility programs, soil health, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and responsible pesticide application practices. Experience maintaining sports fields, athletic facilities, and high-use public turf areas is highly desirable. Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, scheduling, troubleshooting, repairs, and water-management practices. Ability to effectively manage administrative responsibilities, including reports, documentation, employee timekeeping oversight, work planning, scheduling, and communication with management. Pesticide Applicator Certificate, Qualified Applicator Certificate/License (QAC/QAL), or similar credential preferred. Candidates without a current credential must be able to obtain required certification within 6 months of hire. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively direct, coach, and hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional work environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with field employees, management, clients, City representatives, contractors, and members of the public. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple crews, locations, service requests, projects, and deadlines. Ability to regularly walk parks, sports fields, and landscaped properties and conduct detailed field inspections throughout the workday. Previous experience as a Parks Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Landscape Superintendent, Sports Turf Manager, Golf Course Assistant Superintendent, Turf Specialist, or similar leadership position is preferred. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable managing employees in the field and handling the administrative responsibilities of a large municipal parks maintenance operation. This individual should have a strong understanding of turf and landscape maintenance, be capable of identifying and correcting field conditions, and have the leadership skills necessary to organize and direct a large workforce across multiple locations. The successful candidate will maintain high standards for safety, appearance, productivity, and customer service while developing employees, maintaining accountability, and building a strong working relationship with City staff and management.
