272 Guest Rooms and Suites Position Summary The Maintenance Manager / Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering, maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, and life safety operations for two adjacent Sonesta properties: Sonesta Select Huntington Beach Fountain Valley and Sonesta ES Suites Huntington Beach Fountain Valley. This leadership position is responsible for maintaining the physical assets of both hotels, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for guests and team members while maximizing operational efficiency and protecting company assets. The Maintenance Manager will oversee daily maintenance activities, preventative maintenance programs, capital improvement projects, vendor relationships, regulatory compliance, and engineering team performance across both properties. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven track record of successfully managing hotel engineering operations. Essential Responsibilities - Engineering & Maintenance Operations Oversee all maintenance and engineering functions for both hotel properties. Ensure hotel guest rooms, suites, public spaces, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas, and exterior grounds are maintained to Sonesta brand standards. Prioritize, assign, and monitor daily maintenance work orders. Respond promptly to guest and operational maintenance needs. Maintain safe, clean, and efficient facilities at all times. Preventative Maintenance Develop and execute comprehensive preventative maintenance programs. Conduct routine inspections of guestrooms, suites, public areas, and building systems. Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs or replacements before failures occur. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records. Building Systems Management Manage and maintain: HVAC systems Plumbing systems Electrical systems Fire alarm and life safety systems Pool and spa equipment Laundry equipment Kitchen equipment Lighting systems Building automation and control systems Parking lot and exterior infrastructure Leadership & Team Development Recruit, train, coach, and supervise maintenance personnel. Prepare work schedules and ensure adequate staffing coverage. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and service excellence. Conduct performance evaluations and ongoing development discussions. Budgeting & Asset Protection Assist with preparation and management of annual engineering budgets. Monitor labor, supply, and repair expenses. Manage inventory and purchasing of maintenance supplies and equipment. Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies. Participate in capital planning and property improvement initiatives. Vendor & Contractor Management Coordinate and supervise outside contractors and service vendors. Obtain bids and negotiate pricing for services and repairs. Ensure all vendor work meets quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards. Maintain all required permits, licenses, inspections, and compliance documentation. Conduct routine safety audits and implement corrective actions. Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts. Emergency Response Serve as primary engineering contact for building-related emergencies. Participate in on-call responsibilities and respond to urgent maintenance situations as needed. Ensure proper execution of emergency procedures and business continuity plans. QualificationsRequired High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably within hospitality, multifamily, commercial, or institutional facilities. Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently. Valid California driver's license. Preferred Hotel Chief Engineer or Maintenance Manager experience. Multi-property experience. HVAC certification. Pool Operator Certification (CPO). Trade certifications in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related disciplines. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and use of ladders. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours. Why Join Us? Compensation:
$90,000 - $100,000 annually,
