Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance - Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist performs advanced journey-level irrigation and grounds maintenance work while serving as the lead over irrigation and grounds operations; coordinates, assigns, prioritizes, and reviews work orders; provides technical guidance, training, and quality assurance; and ensures systems, equipment, and projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and District expectations. In support of efficient operations and timely completion of District priorities, incumbents may be assigned to assist other skilled maintenance trades or functional areas on projects or work assignments outside of their primary specialty. Such assignments are performed consistent with the employee's skills, training, certifications, and safety requirements, and may include collaborative, cross-trade project work as needed to meet operational demands while supporting a team-based, service-oriented maintenance model focused on efficiency, timely service delivery, operational consistency, and continuous improvement in support of safe and functional learning environments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee. This classification provides functional lead direction, technical guidance, and work coordination to assigned staff but does not exercise formal supervisory authority.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Skilled Maintenance - Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist is the advanced journey-level classification that performs the most complex and specialized irrigation and grounds work while providing functional leadership over irrigation and grounds operations. Incumbents are responsible for assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work orders; coordinating workflow; and providing technical guidance to staff to ensure quality, consistency, and timely completion of work. Incumbents are also responsible for coordinating cross-trade collaboration and supporting department-wide operations, including assigning or participating in multi-trade projects and ensuring staff resources are utilized effectively to meet operational priorities. This role promotes a team-based approach to maintenance services and ensures that work is completed efficiently regardless of trade boundaries, consistent with employee qualifications and safety requirements. This classification is distinguished from the Skilled Maintenance - Irrigation and Grounds Specialist by its responsibility for ongoing coordination, assignment, prioritization, and review of work across staff and projects, as well as accountability for workflow, quality, and operational efficiency across projects and assignments, but does not exercise formal supervisory authority such as hiring, discipline, or evaluation.

E Diagnoses irrigation system failures and determines appropriate corrective actions. E Programs, maintains, and adjusts irrigation controllers and automated watering systems to ensure efficient water usage and system performance. E Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, and specifications to support installation and repair activities. E Performs grounds maintenance duties including irrigation repair, turf and landscape care, and related site upkeep to support operations. E Inspects District grounds and irrigation systems to identify maintenance needs and proactively address issues. E Performs preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability, efficiency, and longevity. E Assists in planning and implementing irrigation system upgrades, improvements, and water conservation initiatives. E Assists in planning, estimating, and coordinating irrigation and grounds projects. E Ensures proper use, maintenance, and safe handling of tools, equipment, and chemicals in accordance with applicable safety standards. E Coordinates with other trades and departments to plan, sequence, and complete work assignments and support site needs. E Oversees and manages work order system activities, including assigning, tracking, prioritizing, and reviewing work orders; ensures accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and system conditions. E Utilizes work order systems and technology platforms to receive, track, update, and close work assignments; maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system conditions. E Maintains records related to work orders, system performance, and inventory of parts and supplies. E Assists other trades and participates in cross-functional maintenance and construction projects as assigned to support timely completion of District work. E Participates in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. E Assists with projects, assignments, and operational needs outside of primary trade specialization, as needed to support department priorities, deadlines, and emergency response activities. E Performs other related duties as assigned that are appropriate within the professional capacity of the Skilled Maintenance - Lead Irrigation and Grounds Specialist classification.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES A

valid California driver's license is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain within a specified period of time, a valid Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation is required. Additional certifications related to irrigation systems, water management, or chemical application are highly desirable and may be required within a specified period of time. Physical Activities :

Requires frequent standing, walking, and working in indoor and outdoor environments; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting; occasional crawling and working in confined or restricted spaces; and frequent reaching at, below, and above shoulder level while performing repairs and installations. Requires climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and working at heights, including rooftops and elevated platforms. Work involves balancing on ladders and uneven surfaces, frequent twisting at the waist, and sustained use of upper extremities for handling tools and materials. Fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping are performed frequently when operating hand and power tools, pulling wire, and assembling or repairing equipment. Driving and operation of District vehicles and equipment is performed as required.

Lifting and Carrying Requirements :

Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 10 pounds; regularly lifts and carries objects up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 50 pounds. Heavier items may be lifted or moved with assistance.
