Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance - Multi-Trade Specialist performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties across multiple trades in the construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization of District buildings, facilities, and grounds; performs journeyman-level work in one or more trades and supports work in additional trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and general construction; ensures systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable codes and regulations; supports preventive maintenance programs and a coordinated, service-oriented maintenance model; and performs related duties as assigned. In support of efficient operations and timely completion of District priorities, incumbents may be assigned to assist other skilled maintenance trades or functional areas on projects or work assignments outside of their primary specialty. Such assignments are performed consistent with the employee's skills, training, certifications, and safety requirements, and may include collaborative, cross-trade project work as needed to meet operational demands while supporting a team-based, service-oriented maintenance model focused on efficiency, timely service delivery, operational consistency, and continuous improvement in support of safe and functional learning environments.

Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations or designee. This classification does not exercise supervision.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Skilled Maintenance - Multi-Trade Specialist is the journey-level classification responsible for independently performing skilled work across several trades and supporting a wide range of maintenance and minor construction projects. Incumbents are expected to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades while assisting in others. Incumbents are expected to diagnose issues, determine appropriate corrective actions, and complete work with minimal direction across District facilities. Incumbents in this classification operate as part of a collaborative maintenance team and are expected to support overall department operations beyond a single trade specialty. This includes assisting other trades, supporting multi-trade projects, and contributing to shared workload demands to ensure timely completion of work and continuity of operations. Incumbents may provide guidance, direction, or technical support to assigned staff, assistants, or employees supporting work activities; however, this classification does not include ongoing responsibility for assigning, prioritizing, or formally reviewing the work of others, which is characteristic of the Skilled Maintenance - Lead Multi-Trade Specialist.

E Performs preventive maintenance and responds to work orders to ensure buildings, systems, and equipment remain safe, operational, and compliant with applicable standards. E Constructs, installs, repairs, and maintains structures, fixtures, and systems including walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, windows, fencing, asphalt, and play equipment. E Assists in minor construction, modernization, and repair projects including site preparation, material installation, and finishing work. E Performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of systems. E Diagnoses system failures and determines appropriate corrective action. E Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, and specifications. E Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and effectively. E Coordinates with other trades and departments to complete work. E Assists other trades and participates in cross-functional maintenance and construction projects as assigned to support timely completion of District work. E Receives and responds to assigned facilities work orders; assesses reported issues, prioritizes tasks based on urgency and impact, performs repairs, and documents work completed in the District's work order system. E Utilizes work order systems and technology platforms to receive, track, update, and close work assignments; maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system conditions. E Ensures compliance with safety practices, building codes, and District policies while performing all work assignments. E Maintains clean, safe, and organized work areas and ensures proper care and storage of tools and materials. E Responds to urgent maintenance needs and supports emergency repair situations as assigned. E Supports the implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. E Assists with projects, assignments, and operational needs outside of primary trade specialization, as needed to support department priorities, deadlines, and emergency response activities. E Performs other related duties as assigned that are appropriate within the professional capacity of the Skilled Maintenance - Multi-Trade Specialist classification.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any other combination of experience, training, and/or education that could likely provide the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in installation, maintenance, and repair work in one or more skilled trades at the journey level is required.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES A

valid California driver's license is required. Relevant trade certifications in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related fields are desirable. Physical Activities :

Requires frequent standing, walking, and working in indoor and outdoor environments; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting; occasional crawling and working in confined or restricted spaces; and frequent reaching at, below, and above shoulder level while performing repairs, installations, and oversight of work activities. Requires climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and working at heights, including rooftops and elevated platforms. Work involves balancing on ladders and uneven surfaces, frequent twisting at the waist, and sustained use of upper extremities for handling tools, materials, and inspecting work. Fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping are performed frequently when operating tools and evaluating completed work. Driving and operation of District vehicles and equipment is performed as required.

Lifting and Carrying Requirements :

Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 10 pounds; regularly lifts and carries objects up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 50 pounds. Heavier items may be lifted or moved with assistance.

Sensory Requirements :

Requires visual acuity to inspect systems, review completed work for quality and safety, read plans and specifications, and identify hazards. Requires hearing and speaking to communicate with staff, coordinate work activities, and respond to environmental conditions.
