Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee, the Skilled Maintenance - Lead Plumbing Specialist performs advanced journeyman-level plumbing work and serves as the lead over plumbing staff; coordinates, prioritizes, and reviews work assignments; provides technical expertise and guidance; and ensures plumbing work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and District standards. In support of efficient operations and timely completion of District priorities, incumbents may be assigned to assist other skilled maintenance trades or functional areas on projects or work assignments outside of their primary specialty. Such assignments are performed consistent with the employee's skills, training, certifications, and safety requirements, and may include collaborative, cross-trade project work as needed to meet operational demands while supporting a team-based, service-oriented maintenance model focused on efficiency, timely service delivery, operational consistency, and continuous improvement in support of safe and functional learning environments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Supervision is received from the Executive Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation or designee. This classification provides functional lead direction, technical guidance, and work coordination to assigned staff but does not exercise formal supervisory authority.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Skilled Maintenance - Lead Plumbing Specialist is the advanced journey-level classification that performs the most complex and specialized work while providing functional leadership over plumbing operations. Incumbents are responsible for assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing work orders; coordinating workflow; and providing technical guidance to staff to ensure quality, consistency, and timely completion of work. Incumbents are also responsible for coordinating cross-trade collaboration and supporting department-wide operations, including assigning or participating in multi-trade projects and ensuring staff resources are utilized effectively to meet operational priorities. This role promotes a team-based approach to maintenance services and ensures that work is completed efficiently regardless of trade boundaries, consistent with employee qualifications and safety requirements. This classification is distinguished from the Skilled Maintenance - Plumbing Specialist by its responsibility for ongoing coordination, assignment, prioritization, and review of work across staff and projects, as well as accountability for workflow, quality, and operational efficiency across projects and assignments, but does not exercise formal supervisory authority such as hiring, discipline, or evaluation.

E Diagnoses plumbing system failures and determines appropriate corrective actions using technical expertise, tools, and equipment. E Installs, repairs, and replaces piping systems including copper, PVC, galvanized, and related materials. E Installs, repairs, and replaces plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, drinking fountains, valves, and associated components. E Maintains and repairs water heaters and associated hot water systems. E Clears obstructions and repairs sewer and drainage systems using appropriate equipment and methods. E Installs, repairs, and maintains gas lines and related appliances in accordance with safety standards and applicable codes. E Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, and schematics to plan and complete work assignments. E Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and effectively. E Utilizes work order systems and technology platforms to receive, track, update, and close work assignments; maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system conditions. E Assists other trades and participates in cross-functional maintenance and construction projects as assigned to support timely completion of District work. E Communicates with school sites, departments, and management regarding work status, project timelines, operational impacts, and resource needs. E Assigns, prioritizes, and reviews work orders and projects. E Coordinates workflow and monitors progress of assigned work. E Coordinates and deploys staff resources across trades and projects to meet operational priorities and timelines. E Provides functional direction, technical guidance, training, and support to staff. E Inspects completed work to ensure quality and compliance. E Assists in coordinating projects including planning, estimating labor and material needs, sequencing work, and collaborating with other trades, departments, and external partners as needed. E Supports inventory, materials, and resource coordination. E Responds to emergency maintenance situations and coordinates staff and resources to restore safe and functional conditions. QUALIFICATIONS

Any other combination of experience, training, and/or education that could likely provide the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in plumbing, including demonstrated journey-level experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work is required. Experience coordinating or leading work activities is highly desirable.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES A

valid California driver's license is required. Possession of a valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification issued by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) or equivalent is highly desirable and may be required within a specified period of employment. A valid C-36 Plumbing Contractor license is highly desirable. Additional specialized certifications related to plumbing systems are highly desirable and may be required within a specified period of employment. Physical Activities :

Requires frequent standing, walking, and working in indoor and outdoor environments; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting; occasional crawling and working in confined or restricted spaces; and frequent reaching at, below, and above shoulder level while performing repairs, installations, and oversight of work activities. Requires climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and working at heights, including rooftops and elevated platforms. Work involves balancing on ladders and uneven surfaces, frequent twisting at the waist, and sustained use of upper extremities for handling tools, materials, and inspecting work. Fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping are performed frequently when operating tools and evaluating completed work. Driving and operation of District vehicles and equipment is performed as required.

Lifting and Carrying Requirements :

Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 10 pounds; regularly lifts and carries objects up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 50 pounds. Heavier items may be lifted or moved with assistance.
