The Public Works Department is responsible for the engineering, permitting, maintenance and operation of the City's infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, roadway medians, alleys, water system, sewer collection, storm drains, public parking lots, traffic signals, etc. The Department also manages maintenance and public service programs such as graffiti abatement, tree trimming, street sweeping, trash and recycling services, parks and street maintenance, and utilities and facilities maintenance. In addition, the Department Manages a comprehensive capital improvement program that provides roadway rehabilitation, signal coordination, trail construction, etc. The Position Under the direction of the Public Works Superintendent, the Parks Maintenance Supervisor plans, organizes, directs and manages the maintenance and repair of parks, parkettes, ballfields, sports fields, gymnasiums, skate park, handball courts, basketball courts, futsal courts, playgrounds, restrooms, landscape and hardscape improvements, trash abatement and custodial services to park facilities. They will oversee personnel and financial management of the Parks Division in the Public Works Department. The incumbent will supervise staff, contractors, and vendors, perform a variety of administrative and technical functions related to parks maintenance including inspecting, assessing, evaluating and documenting parks conditions; developing and overseeing various routine, preventative and programmed maintenance activities; and formulating and managing parks maintenance services. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed by employees in this classification. Functions may be added, modified or deleted to meet the needs of the City. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies, procedures and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring and training staff; developing schedules and distributing work orders; establishing deadlines; briefing staff on safety procedures; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; coordinating, developing and approving staff training; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Plan, assign and supervise the daily activities of Parks maintenance staff; coordinate work schedules, overtime and emergency response assignments. Oversee maintenance of parks, sports fields, landscape areas, playgrounds, restrooms and facilities; ensure proper turf management, irrigation system operation and maintenance and tree care. Supervise preparation and maintenance of athletic fields (grading, chalking, mowing, infield conditioning). Monitor and inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met. Review, evaluate, organize and respond to service requests and citizen complaints. Maintain maintenance records and program information in response to requests from risk / claims management. Monitor equipment usage and recommend replacement as necessary; ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding fuel, emissions and chemical usage. Coordinate and assist with special events, park improvements and contracted services; Work with other departments, contractors and vendors; support programs, activities and special events setup and implementation. Monitor the budget, track expenditures, maintain records, reports and work orders documentation. Review and process invoices for services rendered; order and purchase all equipment, supplies, and materials required for parks maintenance. Installs, maintains, and inspects park equipment and furnishings, fixtures and amenities. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs. Explain and interpret department practices, work procedures, and safety regulations that employees are expected to meet within the work unit or department. May represent the City or department at meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences.

Education/Training/Experience Education:
A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; supervisory and managerial training. College coursework/extension classes; Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or a related field is desired.
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in parks / sports fields maintenance and repair work. Two (2) years of supervisory experience. Leadership experience, customer service and interaction with the public experience.
