DESCRIPTION

The Project & Maintenance Engineering Manager combines dual responsibility for engineering projects and direct maintenance operations at the Hartford facility. This role leads and manages the maintenance team—consisting of 2 direct supervisors/leads and 10 maintenance operators (electricians, mechanics, and facility technicians)—while driving site reliability, preventative maintenance strategies, automation upgrades, and technical CAPEX initiatives. The manager ensures optimal equipment availability, operator safety, and process optimization across all production lines and building facilities. 2.0 KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTeam Leadership & Operations Management Directly manage a maintenance team composed of 2 direct report leads/supervisors and 10 maintenance operators (electricians, mechanics, and facility maintenance staff). Both union and non-union. Oversee work order scheduling, shift assignments, skill development, performance management, and daily execution of maintenance tasks. Ensure team compliance with technical standards, electrical codes, environmental regulations, and occupational safety rules. Preventive Maintenance & Facility Reliability Lead data-driven preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize equipment uptime and minimize unscheduled downtime. Analyze root causes (RCA) of mechanical, electrical, and facility failures to design out recurring issues. Oversee building infrastructure, utility systems, and facility maintenance operations. Engineering & Automation Projects (CAPEX) Lead site technical projects and CAPEX initiatives from design through specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning. Assist in the design, programming, and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Siemens PLCs, HMIs, SCADA architectures, and control loops. Support robotic systems deployment and automation enhancements across specialized manufacturing equipment. Develop technical specifications for new machinery and manage OEM suppliers, contractors, and third-party vendors. Standard Work & Continuous Improvement Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Work procedures for production equipment and maintenance practices. Champion Lean manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen) to improve process workflow, tool management, and workshop efficiency. 3.0 KEY

Equipment Uptime & OEE:

Improvement in MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and overall plant availability.

Maintenance Schedule Compliance:

Completion rate of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks by the maintenance team (Shift of FT to SD).

Team Management & Safety:

Zero safety incidents, effective workforce utilization, and team skill advancement.

CAPEX & Project Execution:

On-time, on-budget delivery of capital automation and infrastructure projects. 4.0 WORK

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is based in an office within a manufacturing facility and requires significant presence on the shop floor to lead the maintenance team, inspect machinery, and oversee engineering projects. Exposure to typical factory conditions (moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, noise, and vibration) is expected.
