Shop Foreman Job Description Position Summary:

The Shop Foreman will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the manufacturing shop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to production schedules and quality standards. This position serves as the primary floor-level leader for shop operations and works closely with department supervisors and management to coordinate labor, priorities, materials, and workflow. The Shop Foreman is a hands-on leadership role focused on daily execution, employee support, accountability, and resolving production issues as they arise. Essential Functions (Other duties as assigned):

• Oversee daily shop-floor operations and ensure production priorities and schedules are communicated and followed.
• Coordinate with department supervisors and management to allocate labor and resources based on workload, deadlines, and production needs.
• Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor, monitoring workflow, productivity, quality, housekeeping, and employee performance throughout the day.
• Monitor jobs as they move through production and identify potential delays, bottlenecks, material shortages, or other issues that could impact production schedules.
• Work with department supervisors, Programming, Engineering, Inventory, Shipping, and other departments as needed to resolve production issues and keep jobs moving.
• Ensure employees are following approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, and established quality requirements.
• Assist with troubleshooting fabrication, machinery, material, and workflow issues and escalate significant concerns to management when necessary.
• Promote and enforce company safety policies, proper use of personal protective equipment, and safe work practices throughout the shop.
• Support the training and cross-training of employees to improve shop flexibility, productivity, and employee skill development.
• Assist supervisors and management with coaching employees, documenting performance concerns, and recognizing strong employee performance.
• Help ensure tools, equipment, materials, and supplies required for production are available and communicate maintenance or material needs promptly.
• Participate in daily production meetings or shop-floor planning discussions and communicate changes in priorities to affected employees.
• Help maintain accountability for production expectations, quality, safety, attendance, and overall shop performance.
• Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, urgency, teamwork, accountability, and a strong commitment to quality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Required Skills:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, millwork, cabinetry, fixture, or related production environment preferred.
• Previous lead, foreman, or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of shop-floor manufacturing processes, preferably within custom millwork, cabinetry, fixtures, or displays.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and technical instructions.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct employees, set expectations, maintain accountability, and earn the respect of the shop team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, and management.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to respond quickly to changing production needs.
• Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with close attention to detail.
• Understanding of production schedules, labor utilization, quality standards, and basic manufacturing performance expectations.
• Knowledge of woodworking tools, machinery, materials, and fabrication methods preferred.
• Understanding of math and measurements.
• Proficiency with basic computer systems and manufacturing software; experience with Global Shop Solutions preferred, but not required.

Working Condition:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in a manufacturing shop environment and may also perform limited administrative work in an office setting. The employee will be exposed to noise levels consistent with a millwork factory environment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be required.
